You may not have time to smile but you do have time to listen to episode 56 of Thoughts on a Run. Fresh from their fun-day Sunday long run, Hannah flags the ins and outs of the game every millennial played but never really understood: Minesweeper. Missy coincidentally stays on the digital theme and considers the increasingly global paralanguage of emojis. So sweaty and so silly, we’ll seal you soon. There’s even talk of everyone’s favourite font (wingdings). Look, just get amongst it.

Methinks this episode is 100% groovy cool beans and a good shout. Missy reaches the apex yawn point and has a gaping good gasbag about the study of yawning. Hannah is a good little house elf, as she (allegedly) gives 100% of her intention and attention to the backstory of the sock. There’s rhyming, alliteration, singing, contagious yawning, and a lot of foot chat which is, at this point, unsurprising.

Will an apple a day keep this podcast at bay? Absolutely not. Is the knowingness of your knowledge more knowing? That sentence does not make sense, but we promise this week's episode does. While our abs are not yet shredded, Hannah’s chalk chat is more interesting than Missy thought it would be. Missy goes bananas about apples and we both learnt things this episode - but do we know them? Well, it all comes back to chalk, guys.

After a whole year of yapping, Thoughts on a Run is one! Hannah and Missy mark this milestone with a special announcement (don’t get your hopes too high, it’s not that cool). Missy slays on theme and gives some insight into the surprising origins of the ‘Happy Birthday to you” song. Hannah pops a 180 and for some reason chooses this episode to talk about skateboarding. Warning: this episode includes both the kit and caboodle AND the whole shebang.

“Come in confident and believe in yourself out the gate.” Hannah does just that and cracks straight into it with some sleep-talking chat (although, promise we’re both awake). Missy goes wide with Wikipedia waffle. In the 20+ years that Wikipedia has existed it’s become increasingly more reliable and accurate. Can the same be said of Thoughts on a Run? Probs not. Is there anything more stressful than someone saying ‘how are you’ instead of ‘hello’ in passing? After some light arguing and an unprecedented discussion that searches for the true meaning of kindness, Missy delves deep into the Paris Catacombs. Hannah pulls a hard right turn and gives a bucking good summary of both The Beep Test and The Bronco Test. (Don’t worry there’s a list).

Joke’s on you, they’re all true! This week Hannah talks about wedding anniversary milestone gifts (I know very random). Then bear with as Missy gets wippee for whoopee cushions and has a gasbag about everyone’s favourite gag gift. Feat far too much side content on flatulence - PSA fam, never hold in a fart.

Apropos of nothing, Missy and Hannah reveal the random thing they think about often and they offer VERY different vibes! What’s wooden and sticky? A Hydrangea in Winter. Missy cultivates some riveting chat about every Mum’s fave flower, the good old hardy hydrangea. Hannah takes things down a notch, below sea-level in fact as she gets to the bottom (figuratively) of the lost city of Atlantis. Ps. How many times can Missy say “alternating”? The answer is too many times.

“I can’t remember what I’m talking about or why I started doing this” (Mooney, 2025). Ain’t that the truth! This weeks episode is lit. Hold on to your wicks while Hannah sheds some light on the history of candles. Meanwhile, Hannah, aside from making bold claims such as declaring she could represent Aotearoa at Bananagrams, answers the age old question of milk vs water first when concocting the perfect cup of tea. Feat a long-winded story about shoe sizes that absolutely no one asked for and the phrase “on the bag.”
