Thousand Greens is the social network for members of private golf clubs seeking camaraderie through golf. Golf Anywhere, Friends Everywhere.
Today, we venture to the Great White North and speak with Coppinwood member and consummate TG Host, Galen Udell. Galen tells us about his own history trying to build a golf network, why he decided to join TG instead, and how it has made his golfing life better. We also talk about rebuilding a golf swing after injury, how to get started in learning about golf architecture, and his experiences playing club matches in Scotland and Ireland.
During our chat, we referenced two books: Golf's Grand Design: The Evolution of Golf Architecture in America by Bob Cupp, and The Links by Robert Hunter. Both are available on Amazon. We also highly recommend checking out Golf Club Atlas and the Fried Egg to get tons of information regarding this subject.

Today, our guest is, Jim Chappell. Chappy, as he’s known by his golf buddies, is a Bay Area native who spent his career in high tech. Recently, he relocated to North Carolina to be closer to family and to his other love, college basketball. We dive into the very early days of Thousand greens and hear about the founding story from one of the first ten members. Be careful getting into a gin game with Chappy after a round though, you’ll likely leave with a lighter wallet, but a wonderful set of memories.

Dmay lives in Arkansas and recently found his way into the golf business through an investment in Unknown Golf. We talk about what led him to this new adventure, how he got into golf, and why Thousand Greens has been a meaningful part of that journey. Dmay also has lots of great stories, so if you’re in the network, I highly recommend reaching out to one of the "OGs" on the platform. Guaranteed, he’ll threaten you with a good time.

Ryan can only be described as a character. While wearing a flatbill hat and a T-shirt with a giant print of Tiger Woods, He took our interview from his sprinter van he was driving down the California coast on a golf trip. He describes himself as an Executive Professional, an aspiring - if not somewhat delusional - amateur golfer, a husband, and father.

Izzy signed up to the be the very first Founders Club member when the program launched. When asked to describe himself, he passed on the usual “what you do, where you’re from” spiel and said “I have a unique name that people don’t forget” and “I’m the guy that knows everyone, but no one’s ever met me” He’s also lived all over the U.S. without ever buying a home. Instead, he appears to have collected a number of wonderful golf clubs.

Manish Goel is the founder of Thousand Greens. Manish is a former Tech executive who has channeled his considerable talent and energy into the creation of a social network for private club golfers. While our conversation here goes on a bit longer than our other episodes, Manish’s thoughts are well worth the listen as we dive into what he loves about golf, how he feels clubs should cater to the modern golfer, and what continues to drive him with Thousand Greens.
