On the early morning of June 3, 2011, 20-year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer walked out of a friend’s apartment barefoot — leaving behind her phone, shoes, and purse — and vanished somewhere between College Avenue and her apartment just three blocks away.

What followed was one of the most exhaustive missing person investigations in college-town history: thousands of tips, national headlines, a nine-day landfill search, and still... no answers.
