Three Men and Milan

Milan demolished Napoli on their own turf this past week in the best performance of 2023. A result that would have surprised the most loyal of Milan fans has everyone looking upward again and hoping to repeat this success against Napoli again in the Champions League. Before this we have a home fixture with Empoli to navigate to try and keep Milan on track for a top 4 finish. Forza Milan! It’s a desperate pod this week with all three of us depressed about the recent performances and likelihood of finishing the season on a high. After diabolical performances against Udinese and Salernitana before the international break confidence is at an all time low and potentially adding to that feeling is facing Napoli 3 times in 2 weeks as they focus on league and European glory, can Milan spoil the party? Let's hope so for all our sakes. Milan are into the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time in over a decade after a strong performance away from home against Spurs. The impregnatable defence unit kept an insipid Spurs team at bay to ensure Brahim Diaz goal form the first leg was the difference. Focus back on the league now as more dropped points last weekend means no more mistakes are allowed against Salernitana and Udinese if we want to be in the hat for the Champions League again next season. Victory in the Last 16 of the Champions League over Spurs this week puts Milan in the driving seat for the second league in around a months time. Following a period of awful form Milan seemed to have turned a corner with a new 3-back formation and two clean sheets to show for it. Hopefully this form continues into the weekend against Monza. Another week another bruising defeat, Inter waltzed to victory over a Milan side scared of their own shadow on Sunday night in one of the poorest performances in recent memory. Tactical and personnel changes didn’t stop the poor form with Milan no winless in 7 and looking ahead to the biggest game of the season at home to Spurs in the Champions League. Where to even begin, three of the worst performances we’ve seen from Milan in a long time see them sit outside the top 4 and in serious danger of the season disappearing right in front of them. The post mortem to these defeats is on this weeks podcast as well as the preview for the Debry with Inter. Not the best week to be a Milan fan with a totally predictable cup exit against and mid table side followed by snatching a point away at newly promoted Lecce. Milan seem to be lacking in confidence with big players playing poorly and the manager making uncharacteristic mistakes. Time to put all that behind us as the SuperCoppa is a upon us and a match with Inter could be what’s need to get rid of these new year blues. We and Milan are back from our World Cup slumber and getting ready for some Serie A goodness. Milan’s return has been slightly frenzied with a win away at Salernitana and what seemed like a loss at home to Roma after leading for so long only to throw away 2 points at the death. We discuss these games, how the squad should be strengthened and the upcoming fixtures in the Coppa and Serie A. We also mark the passing of three football icons taken from us too soon by remembering Siniša Mihajlović, Pele and Gianluca Vialli. May they all rest in peace. Milan are on hiatus now until 2023 with an enforced break due to some daft tournament in the middle east. Milan sit second in Serie A and have qualified from their Champions League group, however a feeling of inconsistency surrounds the Rossoneri due to a number of injuries plaguing our free flowing performances. How have we done so far, will we catch Napoli, are a resurgent Juve a threat, all this and more on this mid-season review special.  Forza Milan!   You can follow the podcast on social media:   Twitter - https://twitter.com/3MenAndMilanPod Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/threemenandmilanpod/ Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/threemenandmilanpod Website - https://threemenandmilan.podbean.com

Tottenham Hotspur await Milan in the round of 16 in the Champions League following a wonderful victory against Salzburg this past week to see the Rossoneri progress. This was followed by another 3 points in Serie A following a scare against Spezia and a Hero to Zero moment from Giroud. Two final league games to complete the calendar year are up next with Milan trying to maintain the pace in the title hunt.
