$2 Trillion Stimulus Package Passed, President set ✍️ to sign on Friday.

The House voted 220-211 on Wednesday to approve the Senate's revised version of President Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, sending the bill to Biden's desk to be signed.

It includes $1,400 stimulus payments for most taxpayers; $300 weekly federal jobless aid through early September; funding for vaccine distribution and testing; an expansion of the child tax credit; and a pot of money for state and local governments.

MicroStrategy Snaps Up Another $10 Million in Bitcoin

MicroStrategy now holds a total of $4.4 billion Bitcoin, although it only paid about half that for the stash.

MicroStrategy has purchased a further $10 million in Bitcoin. This is the latest in a string of Bitcoin buys, as the firm continues to add to its $4.4 billion warchest. MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor announced today that the firm has bought 205 Bitcoin for around $10 million. It paid an average price of $48,888 per coin. This is not including the 328 Bitcoin it purchased for 15 million on March 1st.

$1 billion in Bitcoin last month, now has a total of 91,064 Bitcoin. It has paid a total of $2.19 billion.

February 25, the firm announced that it had purchased 19,452 Bitcoin

$1.026 billion at the time, at an average price of $52,765 per BTC. It did so by offering even more convertible notes, this time at 0% interest.

Bitcoin’s hashrate has hit a new all-time high over 160 million TH/s, and while it has since dropped slightly. As the price of Bitcoin kept on rising, miners seemingly bet more on mining equipment and added more hashrate to the network. The figure is bullish as hell.

According to Stock to Flow we should be at 66K-69K in March.

In a statement, New York Attorney General Letitia James said, “Bitfinex and Tether recklessly and unlawfully covered up massive financial losses to keep their scheme going and protect their bottom lines. Tether’s claims that its virtual currency was fully backed by U.S. dollars at all times was a lie.”

The settlement may help resolve, one way or another, a question that has long bedeviled the entire $1.6 trillion global cryptocurrency market. By requiring Tether to provide a greater level of transparency than ever about the backing of its USDT stablecoin – a foundational piece of crypto’s plumbing – the arrangement could replace whispers and conjecture with regular data.

New York’s attorney general sued Bitfinex and Tether nearly two years ago.

Today, they settled for $18.5 million. Tether and Bitfinex have to pay $18.5 million in fines and, perhaps more damaging, cease all trading activities in New York State.

For the next two years, they’ll also be required to submit quarterly reports about how much money they have in their reserves, as well as how they’re working to exclude New Yorkers from their services.

The Attorney General has also mandated that Tether and Bitfinex include information about transfers of funds, along with “verification that Bitfinex and Tether have appropriately segregated client, reserve, and operational accounts.”

Mastercard to Support Cryptocurrency Payments in 2021

Mastercard is moving beyond crypto cards to support direct payments in "select cryptocurrencies"—but not Bitcoin

According to a source familiar with the matter, the functionality will see Mastercard customers’ digital currency payments settled in crypto at participating merchants, a first for the financial giant. The company has not yet disclosed which digital currencies it intends to support, or where.

Mastercard will allow customer-to-merchant payments in cryptocurrency this year without the need to settle in fiat.

The announcement makes clear that Mastercard is interested in integrating stablecoins rather than assets like Bitcoin.

Visa has also mulled running cryptocurrencies on its network.
