In this Retro selection, we explored Failure. Remember, behind every success story there are multiple failure stories, and that every winner is just a loser that tried one more time.

Have you noticed that ‘Failure’ has become a bit of a ‘thing’ again? Favoured in tech circles, the whole idea of failing and failing fast has become part of the lifecycle of tech firms, with methodologies being adapted and even created to in the pursuit of getting failing out of the way, or reframing what it means to fail. You may have heard people in business using a new but common vocabulary, ‘Agile’, ‘Pivot’, ‘Failure Mode Effect Analysis’. We welcome this new attitude to failure, and those of us who have pushed boundaries or pursued a passion know only to well how valuable failing can be…. if you frame it in the right way.

Pennie, Jonny and Ruth discuss failure, both in general and in terms of methodology.

Welcome back to Part 2 of our discussion about Dyslexia.

We knew it was a big topic when we looked into it, and we have learned some fascinating insights about the brain, and also how Dyslexia is regarded – and – understanding is improving in the workplace, schools and universities, and to some extent employers.

Slowly but surely people are less inclined to categorise someone who is Dyslexic as stupid or lacking intelligence, but there is still some work to be done.

In this podcast, Pennie and Ruth take the Dyslexia screening test… and there was a few surprises (and some not so surprising) results.

Welcome to this weeks Throw Starfish. We have Shawn Brown as our guest this week. We were inspired to include Dyslexia as part of our brain series, in part by a TED Talk by Shawn about Neuro Diversity, but also because Jonny is Dyslexic, Ruth wonders if (ok Shawn suspects) that Ruth has Dyslexia, and Pennie struggles getting letters in the correct order when writing on a Flip Chart / White Board.

We discover all the learning differences attribute to Dyslexia – it’s not only reading and reading writing – it also includes skills like numeracy, memory, memory and sequencing.

Welcome to this weeks podcast, The 3rd episode in our series exploring the brain. We hope you’ve enjoyed our discussions and findings so far, and we know for sure we’ll certainly be revisiting this fascinating piece of kit under our hoods again and again – we’ve found the exploration addictive and enlightening – even exciting – it’s such a key moment in science advances we haven’t even scratched the surface.

This week we explore what helps us concentrate and how we try to overcome inevitable distractions. Naturally procrastination comes up, and apps to help, but also – as science reveals more about a brain and relationships to our behaviours, we also explore some of the so called ‘disorders’ including ADHD – particularly in women.
