To recap some of what we discussed in episode 3—not necessarily in this order:

The goal for this episode was to give listeners a broad and easy-to-understand overview.  We reviewed:

●      Hyperthyroidism and some of its symptoms and causes;

●      Graves’ disease and how it is diagnosed;*

●      Some of the commonalities and differences between Graves’ disease and Hashimoto thyroiditis;

●      and an overview of treatment options for Graves’ disease.

●      Best of all, we learned that we CAN impact our thyroid health!

*CREDIT/CITATION:

In episode 3 Dr. Mazza mentioned how Dr. Robert James Graves, and earlier, Dr. Caleb Hillier Parry, described the characteristics of what would become known as Graves’ disease as protruding eyes, anxious appearance, and increase in heart beat “that shook the thorax”.  The citation for that is as follows:

Ahmed, AM, Ahmed NH.  History of disorders of thyroid dysfunction.  East Mediterr Health J 2005;11(3):459-69.

In episode 4, the topic will be thyroid nodules—masses in the thyroid.

We welcome your comments, show ideas, and questions for future episodes.  Please send them to [email protected]
