Today’s topic is about the key to successfully quitting your job, and obviously, the important thing is how to have a conversation with your manager. It is because I had to let my manager know 2 days ago that I need to leave my job in 1 month in order to get the next job related to marketing. It is kind of a tough situation, isn’t it? I just wanted to be polite like the sort of thing. That’s why I asked google as usual.

Shortly, Google introduced me that there are 4 steps. Roughly speaking, first, tell your manager you want time to have a conversation personally because depending on the workplace, it is very difficult to meet the manager directly. Second, explicitly state that you’re leaving and next give a reason nicely. At this moment, it is important not to complain about the environment and your colleague because in Canada sometimes we have to get a reference from a previous manager when we apply for the next job. At the end of the day, it is also essential to end with gratitude when you finish the conversation.

What I said is the following.

I want to talk to you about something: I’m planning to leave this restaurant on October 7th and will use this opportunity to try something new hopefully related to marketing. I’m grateful for all your training, which has been an important part of my professional growth. I’ll do my best until my last day here.

I have been struggling with something recently. That is my lack of small talk skills. Basically, I am not interested in other people, and I am not the type of person who likes to talk at work, so sometimes I find myself the only one at work who is not talking with someone.

As it turns out, I understand I have to talk with my coworkers even though I’m not interested in them. So I just asked google how to go to small talk with someone, and google suggested the article titled 50 conversation starters for introverts. By the way, why did google judge me as an introvert? lol I didn't say anything, though. According to the article, there are 4 tips to start conversations.

First, Compliment the other person on something they are wearing – a jacket, a necklace, their shoes. I really agree with this point because my previous manager did the same thing. She always said I like your nails! I like your Jacket! or new hair color! something like that.

Second, it is very easy to ask someone  “ What are your plans for this weekend?” or “What did you do last weekend?” because people really prefer to think about holidays. I never asked this question but it is a very good idea, isn’t it?

Lastly, if they have some pets or you have pets, you can ask about it. I don’t. but I sometimes found people were talking about it. For me, it is kind of difficult because I’m not interested in pets as well but next time I wanna try it.

In addition, today I talked with my tutor about this issue, and she totally agreed with this article as well as she suggested I ask for some recommendations for the restaurant or someplace to visit when I want to talk with them more and more. I got it. I think I’m going to try these tips in my next job! Shall we?

When you were in school, I think you would study lots of grammatical stuff like adverbs. But sometimes don’t you think there are seldom opportunities to use these words? Today I’d like to introduce 3 useful adverbs in daily conversation.

First, I can’t help introducing this one. The word “Absolutely” is definitely useful because you can use this word in speech as a forceful way of saying "yes" or expressing agreement. for example, "Would you like to see a movie tonight?" "Absolutely!" By the way, Japanese tend to use the word maybe instead, I recommend using the word “probably” if you want to express a kind of ambiguity of saying yes.

Second, I use the word “Gradually” so often. You can use “Gradually” when you want to describe something that happens slowly, bit by bit. It is useful because When you start living abroad, you will definitely be asked by someone “Are you getting used to living here?” Then, you can say "I am gradually getting used to living in Vancouver".

Lastly, I’d like to pick up the word “eventually” it means “in the end” and is also very similar to “Finally”. The reason why I wanna introduce this one is that it is very easy to end up with the stories that you want to tell. You know we sometimes have to tell a story about something. If you know this word, the length and degree of the story are going to be controllable. I have an example to use this word, like “Eventually, I did get better and returned to work.” for example especially when you got injured you can use it like that.
