This show's drink is called the Captain's Grog which was created at Captain’s Inn, Long Beach, CA in 1962. This massive tiki bar has five dining rooms at its waterfront restaurant. It features three rums: a dark Jamaican rum,a light Puerto Rican rum, and a gold Puerto Rican rum. It features some cool ingredients such as Falernum, grapefruit juice, vanilla and almond extract, and even Canadian maple syrup! Yummy!!

We discuss the different types of shakers you can use. We go over the "pros" and "cons" of each and which one you should start of with.

On our "Book Review" segment: we talk about the book "And a Bottle of Rum" by Wayne Curtis. This is one of my most used books in my library and I refer to it frequently. It is a great resource book but also has some amazing stories in history of rum and some popular rum cocktails. It goes over the history of things like grog, the flip, and rum itself. Cocktail's stories are the Daiquiri, Mai Tai, Mojito, Planter's Punch and even Rum and Coke (who knew it had a story too).

Finally in the "Mailbag" segment: we get asked where does Craig get his information and just how does he verify its accuracy. Hmmm!!

We are hoping everyone is okay and staying home to be safe from the COVID-19 virus. We have something special for you today to help raise your spirits. We have come up with our top 10 list each (Mark and Craig) for you to enjoy while we are stuck at home.

We thought of this months ago and finally was able to formulate lists (wasn't easy as we could have made this top 50 or 100).

Mark's list will be one type of tiki style which is exotic and mysterious. His music is based mostly on the 50's to the 90's.

Craig's list will be the other type of tiki which is the outside with palm trees, beach, and party sounds.

You will find both very entertaining!!

We continue discuss more about my trip and cool facts about Antigua. The island location, size and population facts. Why are the roads in these Caribbean countries no narrow? Well listen to find out the answer! Transportation on the island comes in all forms and you be surprised just how simple the transportation is. I do recommend by the way to find a driver as you need to know how to drive on these roads (British style driving on the left instead of the right). What is the language: English!

We go over a tiki historical site of Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights. Nelson ...where have we heard that before LOL.

Just got back from my trip to Antigua and we have so much to cover on this amazing tropical island that we decided to break the one recording into two shows for you. This is part one. Thanks and shout out to the staff of the Starfish Jolly Beach Resort and Jermaine (our tour guide).

We will be talking about new cocktails that we had down on the island and there is a nice range of drinks (one sweet, one middle, and one boozy)!!

We first start off with the Purple Dragon (Thanks to Sharlene at the resort who gave us the recipe), second is a national drink in Antigua and we even found bottled in the liquor stores. We want to thank Johnny Tved on the Kon Tiki Floating bar to give us the recipe to this one...hi Johnny!! Yes, I did say floating as it is in the ocean and you can either swim there or a small boat will get you to and from the bar. The third drink will be featured in the next episode for you!

The island is about 100 km east of St. Kitts or 500 km east of Dominican Republic. It is about 108 square miles in size (11x14 miles) and has about 100, 000 people for its population. English is the main language on the island and get this...there are 365 beaches (one for every day of the year)!! I went to eight!!

We did visit and we briefly discuss the donkey sanctuary that we went to and yes, Norma adapted a donkey (Stevie, who is blind)! Plus also a floating tiki bar...did I mention that before and of course I got behind there and made up one of my cocktails for the owner. The highest point on the island is named after figure in USA history...listen to find out!!!

We want to start off by congratulations to Heather Sibley for winning our monthly contest!! Stay tuned for more of those to come!!

This show, we are continuing with our discussion about the 18th amendment which was Prohibition (1920-1933).

The cocktail we are talking today about is the Bee Knees cocktail which was created during this time. The sweetener (honey) was added to mask the bathtub or poor quality gin that was available at the time due to limited supplies. It was created by Frank Meier, the head bartender at the Ritz Bar in Paris. Get this, Frank lead a separate life as a spy...interesting! Want to know more then listen in. By the way Bees Knees in jazz lingo leans “great” or “excellent” or “the best”.

Do bees have knees? hmm ...find out!!

Recipe: 2 oz Gin, 1 oz Lemon Juice, 1 oz Honey Syrup. Shake with ice. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with Orange Twist.

On "Mark's adventures" segment: Mark talks about Death or Glory tiki bar today. From the ashes of the Kreepy Tiki Bar & Lounge comes Death or Glory? It is located about 45 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale in Delray Beach, Death or Glory is the partnership of Isaac Grillo, one time named Ultimate Miami Bartender and owner, along with his wife April DeVona. On "Did you know?" segment: We will discuss the things that came out of prohibition that was good like soda shops and fast cars!! We tell our own stories about sneaking booze into places they didn't belong!!! Yes, to be young and foolish!! We also go over some typical slang terms used back in this era as well. You see!!!

We are doing today a Don the Beachcomber classic tiki cocktail called Shark's Tooth. It was on his original menus and competed against the famous "Zombie" drink in ever location Don had but never got the same recognition as the Zombie.

We have a new newsletter out for February with new recipes from past shows, new tiki bar for Mark's Adventures to discuss, new tiki dates for your calendar and a Tiki cocktail book that every home bar should have in Tiki Books review. Plus more!!!!

So the Shark's teeth in the Polynesian region is very spiritual and practical as tools are made with them. Check out other reasons why the drink got its name. It will keep you all wrapped up!!

Recipe: 1 oz Barbados Rum, 1 oz Jamaican rum (now if you purchase Plantation rum you can use this single rum for both as it was produced by both counties), 0.5 oz lime juice, 0.5 pineapple juice, 0.5 simple syrup, 1 tsp of Maraschino Cherry syrup (sweet version) OR 1 tsp of Maraschino Liqueur (strong like Mark likes it), 3 oz crushed ice (yes, I finally got to use my new ice crusher for this...noisy but worth it). You can either blend this or shaken and double strained into a double old-fashioned rocks glass with fresh crushed ice. Garnish with Cherry and a pineapple leaves (yes, I had no cherries when I took the website shot so I used a piece of pineapple...be creative on your garnish).

So some cool facts about sharks such as surfers wear shark's teeth for good luck and believe it prevents shark attacks but there is not scientific facts to back this up. It's more of superstition!!! Also, 1950s a man was attacked in Hawaii by 3 tiger sharks only to have his body parts found inside a shark 3 days later.

On "Did you know?" segment: we talk about cool facts about the movie "Jaws" such as the mechanic shark was called "Bruce" or "Great White Turd" by the crew...listen to find out why!!! Robert Shaw who played Quint was quite the character and the production crew got more than they bargained for by him...found out why!!!!

Happy New Year and we are back now from vacation!!
We just had the 100th anniversary of the 18th amendment of the United States Constitution (Prohibition) which was on January 17th, 1920.

Our contest will be ending on January 31st with the winner being announced in February on our social media. Check it out at www.tikicentralcanada.ca

So the drink we will talk about on this show is called Mary Pickford from back in the time. It was created for our Canadian actress and producer Mary Pickford who worked in USA. She was also one of the founder of the Pickford-Fairbanks studio with Charlie Chaplin (which turned into United Artists Studios). It was later bought out by MGM studios.

So the drink was created in Cuba for her by Eddie Woelke or Fred Kaufmann at the National Hotel of Cuba.

Recipe: 1.5 oz white rum (we used Cuban rum for this), 1.5 oz pineapple juice, 1 tsp. grenadine, 6 drops of Maraschino liqueur (you can use cherry juice instead if you want it sweeter and less boozy).

Shake in your shaker and then double strained into a coupe glass. What is double strained? Well listen to find out!!

On "Mark's adventures" segment: we will talk about Esotico which is a 30 minute walk from downtown Miami, Florida. Mark's favorite drink was the Tangaroa’s Butt which consists of Mezcal, Wray & Nephew Overproof and Mount Gay Black Barrel rum. Yes, the drink has a special glassware for it...don't ask!! We talk about a special food item there that will definitely have your arms up in the sea about. A pineapple class that has some interesting details to it as well.

On "Did you Know?" segment: we will give you a few facts about Prohibition and how it started from two major groups: ASL and the WCTU who used their power to get the 18th amendment in place. Canada did have a short period of time of Prohibition but then we realized we could sell our whiskey to USA.
