Till Death Do Us Part – Wedding Day Murders
News of the Times Episode 53 | 1840
In today’s episode we look at three cases related to weddings.
Our first case from 1881 in Preston is perhaps one of the most heartless crimes we have researched. A very young girl of 16 has become pregnant from an older unemployed rake. He promises her marriage and allegedly makes all the arrangements. On their supposed wedding day, he suggests a drink first at the local inn. With lemonade in hand, she anticipates her big day, whilst he slits her throat and watches her die.
Our second case from 1897 is highly unusual and gives us a rare glimpse into the life of a Victorian Irish small farmer. His violent ghost is said to continue to stalk the area.
Our third case from 1905 comes from Germany. A honeymooning couple maxes out their financial bill. As the proprietor comes to their room to settle up, he is attacked, bound, and tied to the furniture. The honeymooning couple then leave to go to the next tourist location and do it again. And again, And again.
Three cases related to murder and wedding days is today’s episode of Wicked Wednesdays.
Hosted by Robin Coles.
