    Dr. Diana Palsulka discusses the belief, mythology and phenomenology of UFOs from her groundbreaking book on the topic, "American Cosmic: UFOs, Religion, Technology".
    Dr. Diana Palsulka is a professor of religious studies and chair of the department of philosophy and religion at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
    Dr. Pasulka has a B.A. from University of California, an M.A. from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University, and has served as Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she is currently a professor. She also acts as a consultant for movies about the Catholic and religious supernatural (such as The Conjuring).
    Dr. Pasulka’s research centers on contemporary connections between technology and human belief in the context of religious history, as highlighted by her two recent books, "American Cosmic: UFOs, Religion, Technology", and "Encounters: Experiences with Nonhuman Intelligences".

  • Martin Rees - AI & ET Civilizations
    Professor Martin Rees discusses SETI, The Fermi Paradox & The Technological Singularity from his recent Scientific American article, “Most Aliens May Be Artificial Intelligence, Not Life as We Know It”.
    Professor Martin Rees is a British cosmologist, astrophysicist, and the 15th Astronomer Royal, a post first established in 1675, and to which he was appointed in 1995.
    Professor Rees has a BA, MA, and PhD from Cambridge, supervised by Dr. Dennis Sciama, and after his postdoctoral studies in the UK and abroad, later worked as a professor at Sussex University, the University of Cambridge, and Gresham College. He has also been the director of the Institute of Astronomy and later the Master of Trinity College at Cambridge.
    Professor Rees has authored over 500 research papers and numerous books, and made contributions to the origin of Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, black hole formation, quasars, gamma-ray bursts, as well as more expansive topics in anthropic reasoning and the multiverse. He has also been a supporter of the SETI project, and chaired to advisory board for the Breakthrough Listen project funded by Yuri Milner.

  • Steven Benner - Synthetic Biology & Hachimoji DNA
    Dr. Steven Benner discusses Hachimoji DNA, Artificially Expanded Genetic Information System (AEGIS), and advances in synthetic biology that enable DNA digital data storage, DNA barcoding, self-assembling nanostructures, creating new proteins and perhaps even new forms of life.
    Dr. Benner is known for his work in synthetic biology, including creating in the lab DNA that might be found in alien life forms, "Jurassic Park" experiments that resurrect proteins from ancient Earth life, and generating COVID test kits that were used in India, Europe, and the US, among many other contributions.
    Dr. Benner has been a professor at Harvard University, ETH Zurich, and the University of Florida where he was the V.T. & Louise Jackson Distinguished Professor of Chemistry. In 2005, he founded The Westheimer Institute of Science and Technology (TWIST) and the Foundation For Applied Molecular Evolution. Benner has also founded the companies EraGen Biosciences and Firebird BioMolecular Sciences LLC.
    Benner and his colleagues were the first to synthesize a gene, beginning the field of synthetic biology. He was instrumental in establishing the field of paleogenetics. He is interested in the origin of life and the chemical conditions and processes needed to produce RNA. Benner has worked with NASA to develop detectors for alien genetic materials, using the definition of life developed by the NASA Exobiology Discipline Working Group in 1992, “a self-sustaining chemical system capable of Darwinian evolution”.
    Dr. Benner has a BA & MS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale, and a PhD in Chemistry from Harvard, and has been awarded over a dozen awards and honors related to his research.

    Dr. Seth Shostak discusses SETI, Breakthrough Listen, Next Generation Very Large Array, The Drake Equation, and talks about finding extraterrestrial artifacts, probes and ancient ruins in our galaxy.
    Dr. Seth Shostak is the senior astronomer for the SETI Institute, and has a PhD in Astronomy from Caltech, and BA in Physics from Princeton University. He’s been awarded the Carl Sagan Award for the Popularization of Science and the Klumpke Roberts Award for Astronomy Popularization. He hosts SETI's weekly radio show/podcast Big Picture Science, has played himself numerous times in TV and internet film dramas, and has acted in several science fiction films.
    Seth has co-authored a college textbook on astrobiology, and has written three trade books on SETI. In addition, he’s published more than 400 popular articles on science including regular contributions to NBC News MACH, gives dozens of talks annually, and does regular outreach to students interested in science and astronomy.

    Dr. Raymond Chiao is a physicist best known for his experimental work in quantum optics. He is currently an emeritus faculty member at the University of California, Merced physics department, where he is conducting research on gravitational radiation in collaboration with Prof. Jay Sharping.
    Chiao has become well known in the field of quantum optics due to several important experiments. Based on former experiments carried out by Günter Nimtz in 1992[1] he measured the quantum tunnelling time, which was found to be between 1.5 and 1.7 times the speed of light. He also was the first to measure the topological Berry’s Phase.
    As of 2006, he accepted a faculty position at UC Merced and turned his full energy on the project of detecting gravitational waves through the use of superconductors. As of 2010 he became emeritus faculty but he continues to advise several PhD Students.

  • Frank Tipler - The Omega Point
    Dr. Frank Tipler discusses "The Omega Point", a theoretical future event in which the entirety of the universe spirals toward a final point of unification, and offers insights into the relationship between thermodynamics and information.
    Th term "Omega Point" was originally invented by the French Jesuit Catholic priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who framed it in theological terms, but Tipler's model is based on physics and computation.
    Tipler's theory began in a series of articles in the late 1980s, later summarized the 1994 book "The Physics of Immortality". Tipler's proposed that in the far distant future, all matter will converge to an infinite point at the end of a closed universe, which is the Omega Point.
    Dr. Frank Tipler is a mathematical physicist and cosmologist, holding a joint appointment in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics at Tulane University.
    Dr. Tipler has a Bachelors in Physics from MIT and a PhD from the University of Maryland, with postdoctoral work under the distinguished physicists John Archibald Wheeler, Abraham Taub, Rainer Sachs, and Dennis Sciama. He became an associate professor in mathematical physics in 1981 and a full professor in 1987 at Tulane University, where he has been a faculty member ever since.
