On Time for Success - Business Owner Moms Edition
This week we are interviewing Ellie Wharton of Radio63119
Ellie is a 30-year veteran in the Broadcasting industry, having worked for ABC- NBC- and CBS- owned television stations in San Francisco, CA, St. Louis, MO and Birmingham, AL. In the St. Louis market she worked for KMOV-TV, KEZK, KYKY and KSD radio stations. A graduate of Webster Groves High School, she entered Washington University in St. Louis immediately following high school, then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she earned an Associates degree in Journalism from Laney College in Oakland, CA and the equivalent of a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Communications from San Francisco State University in San Francisco, CA. At Laney College she created the first campus radio station for that institution.
Ellie’s personal motivation is tied to service. A member of Agape SDA Church, she serves on the weekly nursing home ministry team. This 5-year ministry has resulted in three souls being baptized, two have gotten married, and scores have received the message of God’s unending mercy and His precious gift of salvation.
Ellie is a Rotarian, a board member on the Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce, the Webster Groves Historical Society, and Webster Arts, along with being named Citizen of the Year in Webster Groves for 2017.
Despite her professional and civic accomplishments, her most fulfilling time was spent, along with her late husband, Keith, as a missionary in Belize and Panama, where she worked with Christian radio stations producing programming and working as an on-air talent. Upon returning to the United States, the couple’s strong spiritual beliefs prompted them to build a local medium that would allow access to dynamic spiritual, educational, cultural, lifestyle and civic messages. Thus, KWRH-LP Radio 63119 became the newest FM radio station in this region, built from the ground up with 100% donations. The station went live on December 29, 2017 and airs over 30 original programs weekly.
