The most exciting news from this week is that we have a brand new home! At Time to Unwind HQ, we’ve set up a recording studio with all the latest kit – ensuring that we now have all the gear and no idea. When it comes to recording at least: hopefully we know a bit more about watches. This week, we’re talking about the ‘one that got away’: watches that we either sold and regretted, or never bought and should have done. And for good measure, we throw in a couple of cars as well. To quote the poet T.S. Eliot: “Footfalls echo in the memory/Down the passage we did not take/Towards the door we never opened.” It’s going to be emotional.

We’re lucky to feature a very special guest on our podcast this week: Neil Duckworth from Veritime. Neil now specialises in working with a variety of different watch brands that he finds interesting – and he was kind enough to bring in a few examples to show us, which are all fascinating conversation pieces. However, he’s probably best-known for establishing TAG-Heuer in the UK: or just Heuer, as it was known when Neil started in 1982 (because TAG didn’t join the party until 1986). That puts him in a great position to look at how times and tastes have changed over the years and speculate about what’s likely to happen in the future. Motorsport and watches go together like gin and tonic. And for once the analogy is a good one, as there’s a slightly thirsty start to this episode (just check out the first clip below). Jon gets the ball rolling by telling us about Schitt’s Creek, which is apparently a TV series rather than a place we’ve often found ourselves up without a paddle. It can be easy to get there by buying a watch on eBay too, but there are many weird and wonderful bargains to be had if you’re careful. Anthony and Ben cast a quick eye over what has caught their attention in the eBay classifieds, ranging from some Frankenstein-like monsters to other stuff that’s surprisingly cool. And there’s a theme emerging to what we’re liking this week: skin divers (lightweight dive watches that is, not people who go diving in the nude). There’s a great new dive watch out from Glashutte (which polarises opinion) and an established alternative from Delma, while Tim revisits his two wonderful vintage Caravelles.
