The Full Moon in Gemini occurs at the final degree of the sign, continuing a pattern of Full Moons at the last degree of signs until summer 2025. Full Moons mark a culmination, and when they align at the end of a sign, they emphasize closure and reaching a peak.
A Gemini Full Moon is lighthearted and open, with Mercury in Sagittarius encouraging broader perspectives. This particular Full Moon invites big thinking before the Sun transitions into Capricorn the next day, shifting the mood to a more grounded and pragmatic focus. It’s a good time to reflect on your inspirations and goals for 2025 and prepare to tackle challenges realistically.
This Full Moon occurs in Punarvasu, a lunar mansion spanning Gemini and Cancer. It emphasizes the connection between heart and mind. In Vedic thought, the Moon symbolizes citta—the unified heart-mind—reminding us that these aspects of ourselves are not separate but inherently connected. As we move into Cancer, the energy invites us to reconnect and integrate these parts of ourselves, symbolized by the gesture of “hand on heart.”
A look at the main sidereal transits for the year ahead, including the Saturn-Neptune-Rahu conjunction in Pisces, the Mars-Ketu conjunction in Leo, after months of Mars meandering in Cancer, Rahu's transit in Aquarius and the continued technological revolution, and Jupiter and Venus exchanging signs before Jupiter zips through Gemini and makes it into the more hopeful Cancer.
The year begins with intense energy due to Pluto's exact opposition to Mars and Rahu's influence from Pisces. This amplifies and drains Mars' energy, potentially triggering explosive events or burying issues deeper as retrograde Mars retraces its steps.
A second New Moon in December occurs in Sagittarius, guiding us from fear toward optimism. Earlier in the month, the Moon's transit through Scorpio, alongside retrograde Mars in Cancer, may highlight insecurities and intense emotions that require processing to move forward.
By month’s end, the Moon joins the Sun in Sagittarius, and Mercury progresses through Scorpio, easing our struggles and revealing a new path ahead.
This New Moon aligns with Pūrvāṣāḍha, a lunar mansion symbolizing purification and invincibility. Ruled by Apas, the goddess of water, it reflects a need for renewal and reinvigoration. Pūrvāṣāḍha brings optimism, joy, and breakthroughs, symbolized by the elephant's tusk and its association with Ganesa, the remover of obstacles.
While this New Moon carries hints of conflict—often tied to Pūrvāṣāḍha's meaning of “declarations of war”—it also signals vital developments that reveal the truth, a key theme of Sagittarius. The truth will prevail, and this is only the beginning.
The Full Moon in sidereal Taurus, its exaltation sign, conjunct Jupiter at the midpoint of its retrograde, brings an emotional high. Following the dark Moon in Scorpio, this Full Moon is positive overall, with Mercury stationing and instilling excitement.
The Venus-Mars opposition, with Mars retrograde in Cancer, the Moon’s sign, adds intensity. However, Taurus steadies the mind, offering stability amidst any emotional turbulence.
Falling in Mṛgaśirṣā ("deer head"), this Moon reflects curiosity, creativity, and a gentle, vigilant nature. Ruled by Soma, the Moon god associated with healing and medicine, this is a favourable time for travel and renewal. Jupiter’s and Mercury’s retrogrades encourage us to plan ahead yet embrace delays and detours as potential sources of joy and growth.
With Mars “out of bounds” and retrograde in the coming weeks, this Full Moon invites us to explore beyond our comfort zones. Steady yet adventurous, Taurus’s influence supports us in wandering off course and discovering unexpected treasures along the way.
Rahu (true node) enters Aquarius in May 2025, transiting here until November 2026. I look at some likely scenarios and how they may impact each sign.
I discuss Pluto's ingress into Tropical Aquarius, as it continues to transit Sidereal Capricorn, as well as the transits of Saturn and Rahu, the co-rulers of Aquarius that are making big moves in 2025.
The first of the month brings a dark, debilitated Moon in Scorpio—a time that feels especially heavy, with Mercury retrograde adding confusion. It’s easy to slip into catastrophizing.
Scorpio's depth, however, offers hidden potential. At its heart lies the lunar mansion Anurādhā, symbolized by the lotus flower, which grows from mud to blossom. This mirrors how dark times or difficult emotions can fuel personal growth.
To transcend negativity, we must face it fully. Those who truly feel their emotions process them faster while avoiding them only leaves unresolved issues behind. Use this New Moon to embrace your feelings as a pathway to transformation.
As Mercury retrogrades back into a square to Saturn in Aquarius, the Sun joins it halfway through its retrograde, bringing with it insights into hidden motivations. Jupiter is also halfway through its retrograde opposite in Taurus, bringing further insights and clarity. Yet mid-points are not end points and we shouldn’t draw any conclusions.
Everything seems to be lining up at year’s end for a dramatic finale, but one that is an absolute cliffhanger. It may feel like a docuseries that doesn’t seem to have an outcome.
Venus and Mars oppose by December 12, after Venus has conjoined Pluto on December 7. There are many opposing factors and fractions at this stage. Everything may feel like on a knife edge. Mars is finding its strength in Cancer while retrograde, fuelling up again after being depleted. It’s time for round two.
We’re more likely to see extremes as Mars retrogrades in Cancer, in all kinds of spheres, including in weather forecasts and fighting wars. Rahu’s aspect from Pisces, which is itself conjunct Neptune, adds further extremes in water-related damage and confusion.
Rahu and Neptune in Pisces are also adding another strange development, that of the U.S. government claiming UAPs are to be found in our oceans! Wait, you said what now?!
Mercury’s retrograde in Scorpio may not help getting to the truth of the matter right away. Its muddled way of expressing itself is ill-timed. By mid-month, Mercury has stationed direct, while the Sun moves out of a tense square to Saturn and into Sagittarius. We may have more of a sense of what to think about it at this point.
The year ends with the Moon in Scorpio, conjoined Mercury, which remains in Scorpio until the New Year, and Mars continues to retrograde.
Going back over the year 2024 may feel like weighing up the pros and cons, of which there are many.
The Moon opposes the Sun as it transitions out of Libra, a weak point for both, similar to the last Full Moon at the start of Aries. Kṛttikā (Moon) and Viśākhā (Sun) are unique lunar mansions, mixed in nature, being both soft and sharp. This reflects the mixed nature of the Full Moon, on the cusp of two signs.
Sun entering Scorpio with a second Full Moon in Aries emphasizes the need to pursue personal desires without harming others. Relationships are central during Aries/Libra New and Full Moons, requiring a balance between self-focus (Aries) and focus on others (Libra).
The Full Moon in Kṛttikā lacks support from Mars in Cancer, though the Moon and Mars exchange signs briefly, providing some help. Compromise is essential to benefit from this Full Moon.
By avoiding selfish fights, we can find what we want, as others are more willing to help. This Full Moon in Kṛttikā is about letting go of what is no longer needed.
