Former DA federal chairperson and Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip was announced as ActionSA’s provincial chairperson of the Eastern Cape in a press conference held in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. Trollip is the latest high-profile member to join shortly after former DA Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi last month.

SA is itching to hear what the government is doing to keep the country from the brink of collapse, according to political and economic experts at Wits University. President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his state of the nation address (Sona) to a joint sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces tomorrow at 7pm.Parliament has set aside R4m for this year's address, which will take place at the Cape Town city hall after a blaze destroyed parliamentary buildings last month.Associate professor with the School of Governance at Wits University, William Gumede, and lecturer at the School of Economics and Finance at Wits, Dr Lumkile Mondi, say SA wants action, not plans, from this year's Sona. Gumede also outlines the stark political ramifications for Ramaphosa, should he fail to appease a country in crisis.

The “kill the Boer” court case continued on Wednesday morning.

AfriForum is taking EFF members to court over singing dubul’ ibhunu (”kill the Boer”).

There was chaos on Wednesday morning when two people entered the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg singing dubul’ ibhunu while AfriForum’s Ernst Roets was testifying.

The pair held Azapo placards with the words “We will not stop singing to appease white fragility” and “dubul’ ibhunu is a struggle song about blackness”.

The case is being heard until Friday next week.

Tembisa Hospital was temporarily closed on Wednesday after a fatal shooting left patients and staff in a state of shock, the Gauteng health department said.

The second day of the AfriForum vs EFF members court case for singing “Kill the Boer” resumed in the Gauteng high court in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

Ernst Roets from AfriForum, author of the book Kill the Boer: Government Complicity in SA’s Brutal Farm Murders, is continuing with his testimony.

Roets said it's alarming there is no national outcry when black people make racist comments but “hell breaks loose” when white people do so.

AfriForum has gone to court over the singing of the song dubul’ ibhunu (“kill the Boer”) by EFF leader Julius Malema. AfriForum is arguing this was hate speech.

AfriForum's case against EFF members for singing “Kill the Boer” started in the Gauteng high court in Johannesburg on Monday. Ernst Roets from AfriForum, the author of the book Kill the Boer: Government Complicity in SA's Brutal Farm Murders, read some sections of the book and answered questions in the court. AfriForum is taking the party to court over the singing of the song “dubul' ibhulu” (“kill the Boer”) by party leader Julius Malema. AfriForum is arguing that this was hate speech.

The secretary-general of the EFF, Marshall Mzingisi Dlamini, said the case was a waste of time and state resources and Roets was in court to “promote his book”.

Eskom will implement stage 2 load-shedding from 9pm on Monday to “conserve and replenish” emergency reserves.“Further breakdowns could force Eskom to implement load-shedding sooner or to extend the load-shedding beyond Tuesday morning,” the utility said in a statement.Eskom said that, since midnight, it had lost a unit each at Camden, Kusile, Duvha and Matla power stations.

Acting chief justice Raymond Zondo says he is being accused of being pro-Ramaphosa without facts.

Zondo is the final candidate being interviewed for the chief justice position.

Other candidates include Constitutional Court judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga, Supreme Court of Appeal president Mandisa Maya and Gauteng judge president Dunstan Mlambo.

Chief justice hopeful Dunstan Mlambo wants modernisation and innovation in SA courts. 

Mlambo was the third candidate interviewed for the position.

He said the delay in delivering judgments is unacceptable.

On Wednesday Supreme Court of Appeal judge president Mandisa Maya was in the hot sit as she vies for the chief justice position.

Maya is the only woman ever nominated for the position.

She mentioned some of the issues she wants addressed.“DNA samples go stale or get lost. With DNA evidence, in as many as 50% of those cases, convictions will be achieved,” Maya said
