In this episode, we discuss stories and perspectives on day-to-day experiences, culture, and connection from the Purdue Timmy Ecuador Medical Brigade with trip leaders Anne Marie and Max. We also dive into the importance of sustainable healthcare and how we can continue applying this model in the future.
Anne Marie is a senior at Purdue this year studying Global Studies and Spanish with plans to attend medical school after undergrad. She is also pursuing a Medical Humanities certificate through the College of Liberal Arts which she especially appreciates for keeping her in touch with the human side of medicine. Anne Marie hopes to earn her Masters in Public Health alongside an MD or DO to work in community and/or global health with an emphasis on women’s reproductive health. She plans to spend the following academic year in Spain continuing to master Spanish before beginning medical school. Anne Marie has been involved in Purdue’s chapter of Timmy Global Health since her sophomore year, acting as a general member, an Ecuador trip goer, and an Ecuador trip leader. Outside of her academic pursuits, Anne Marie enjoys meeting new people, trying new foods, and traveling to new places whenever she has the chance.
Max is a junior at Purdue studying Medical Laboratory Sciences. He plans on working in medical research while gaining experience to head to P.A. school. Max has been involved with Timmy Global Health at Purdue for three years, serving as a general member, an Ecuador trip goer, and an Ecuador trip leader. Outside of Purdue, Max enjoys snowboarding, traveling to new places, and reading.
Ella Domingo is a second-year honors pharmacy student in the Purdue College of Pharmacy and serves as Timmy Global Health’s Global Health Roundtable Chair. She recently completed a national association management internship with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists this summer and is involved in Purdue's Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists as the President-Elect for the 2020-21 academic year. Through Timmy, she is a Get Onboard Active Living team leader for Indiana University Health where she teaches young students about healthy living through nutrition and exercise. She is an outpatient pharmacy intern at Franciscan Health, a member of Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society, a Presentation Lead Ambassador for Purdue's Honors College Ambassadors, and a Purdue Student Advisory Board Vice Provost for Student Life At-Large Representative. Outside of school, she is a vocalist at St. Thomas Aquinas, enjoys singing and playing different instruments, and loves running and fitness. After pharmacy school, Ella plans on pursuing a residency and is interested in cardiology and health-system pharmacy. She looks forward to serving her future patients and colleagues through interprofessional collaboration and patient-centered care, fulfilling her passions for science and human connection.
