The $10 billion budget request came back with a drastic cut in funding made available, however the program is still alive with a portion of that funding there. While only a fraction of what was requested, it was not cut completely from the budget as what had been done in years past.

The White House announced on Tuesday that President Biden's pick for the federal communications commission chairperson is Jessica Rosenworcel, the existing FCC acting chairwoman. While the acting chair role has previously been filled by a woman, i.e. Mignon Clyburn several years ago, Clyburn was never nominated for the permanent position. Rosenworcel has led an all out attack on Robocalls in some recent actions that may cause carriers to be blocked completely and is a champion for closing the digital divide, especially when it comes to access to free Wi-Fi enabling children to get online at no cost.
