  • Hanging out on the Ex-Miami Open Stadium | TTP Ep 16: Tom Andrews and Martin Barbier

In this episode, I traveled to Miami, FL to hit with some local players and check out the stadium in Crandon Park, Key Biscayne.

Crandon Park Tennis Center, located on Key Biscayne, Florida, has a rich history in the world of tennis. The center is primarily known for hosting the Miami Open, one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional tennis.

    • Founding and Early Years: The Crandon Park Tennis Center was established in 1969, and it quickly became a prominent venue for tennis events. Its location on the picturesque Key Biscayne, surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, added to its allure.
    • Miami Open: In 1987, the Miami Open, formerly known as the Lipton International Players Championship, moved to Crandon Park. The tournament gained significance as a key event in the lead-up to the Grand Slam tournaments. Over the years, Crandon Park became synonymous with thrilling matches, iconic victories, and a vibrant atmosphere.
    • Notable Matches and Champions: The stadium witnessed numerous historic moments, including legendary matchups and victories by tennis greats. The list of champions includes names like Andre Agassi, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, and many others.
    • Relocation: In 2019, the Miami Open moved to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, marking the end of an era at Crandon Park. The move aimed to provide a more expansive and upgraded venue for players and fans.
    • Legacy: Despite its relocation, Crandon Park Tennis Center remains a significant part of tennis history. The memories created on its courts, the intense battles, and the contributions to the sport are etched in the annals of tennis lore.

While the Miami Open has found a new home, the legacy of Crandon Park Tennis Center continues to be a nostalgic reminder of the tournament's formative years and the excitement it brought to tennis enthusiasts worldwide.

Huge joy and honor to share the court with you two blokes! Cheers Tom and Martin!
