In this week's episode of Tits and Tea we're pretending to be a true crime podcast! We're both huge fans of true crime and decided to mix things up this week with an unusual episode! We discuss the cruel and twisted minds of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady- the Moors Murderers who brutally killed five children in the 1960's. We hope we have managed to deliver this with respect to the victims and their families and hope to raise awareness, prevent future crimes against children, support the continued searching for their remaining unfound victim and encourage the next generation to see career possibilities nowadays that would have made this case very different were they available 60 years ago.

This subject is difficult but has many interesting factors and continues to be relevant despite both Hindley and Brady being deceased now.

1961- Brady and Hindley met at work

12.07.1963- Pauline Reade (16) kidnapped and murdered by Hindley and Brady

23.11.1963- John Kilbride (12) is assaulted and murdered

16.06.1964- Keith Bennet (12) is kidnapped and murdered 

26.12.1964-Lesley Ann Downey (10) is assaulted and murdered 

06.10.1965- Edward Evans (17) is murdered by Ian Brady at his and Hindley's home in Greater Manchester 

07.10.1965- Brady is arrested. Hindley a few days later.

21.10.1965- the remains of John Kilbride and Lesley are found

21.04.1966- the trial begins

06.05.1966- Brady sentenced to life for murdering John, Lesley and Edward. Hindley given life for murdering Lesley and Edward and for harbouring Brady after he killed John.

1987: The pair admit to murdering Pauline and Keith. Pauline's body is discovered. 

1997: Hindley appeals for early parole

1999: Brady goes on hunger strike and was force fed since this date. 

2002: Hindley dies. 

2017: Brady dies.

We have not forgotten Keith Bennett. Our thoughts are with his family and we hope the recent new laws may help them finally find his remains and have a proper burial for him. We hope he can be found.

This week we explore a subject close to both our hearts, Animal Activism. This episode has tangents and personal stories galore as we both love animals but it's focus is celebrating the work and life of two incredible Primatologists- Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall. Both of these women had a passion for adventure and the study of primates and dedicated their lives to conservation and improving our understanding of these animals. 

This week Bella created a "Hot Cross Bunny" coffee using Beanies coffee and marshmallow bunnies which caused plenty of giggles.

In this week's episode we learn about some of the brave ladies who campaigned for the Women's right to Vote just over a hundred years ago. This trip into recent history uncovers some shocking truths about the gender inequalities from just a century ago! Whilst we can all agree the Suffragette movement is inspiring we take a closer look into some of the individual women who made history and paved the way for all women today. This topic is huge and if you don't know about the challenges women faced we highly recommend watching the film "suffragette" to gain a digestible yet emotive account of the events taking place in England not so long ago. We also suggest you trace back your family tree, maybe your grandma or great grandma was a suffragist, not just in the UK, women allover the world fought for their right to vote. 

This week Bella chose good old Yorkshire Tea to compliment a British subject, and it sure did hit the spot. We hope you enjoy this episode!

Approximately 35 mins in Bella asks Katie what contraception was like in the early 1900s, her answer wasn't far wrong but after a little more research here's some extra detail: in 1910 condoms were available, but not in latex, (this wasn't used for condoms until the 1920s) so they would have been made from either thicker rubber or skin from animals. Another option was known as 'the sponge' which is actually still a method used today in the USA though it has changed somewhat. The sponge acts as a cervical blockage and was made of rubber, they were probably uncomfortable to wear during sex.   

This weeks tea is: Yorkshire Tea (Decaf), you know how to do this, tea bag in your favourite cup, boil the kettle, pour into the cup, wait a bit, remove after a minute or so, add milk/dairyfree alternative if you like or drink black, add honey or sweetener to taste. slurp... bliss.

In this week's episode of Tits and Tea we appreciate the driving force behind modern clothing for women in the unique and forever stylish fashion designer Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel. Her lifestyle was challenging and controversial, her love affairs passionate and powerful and all of this was reflected in her bold moves taking women's couture in a totally new direction. This episode is a light biography of the woman behind what is possibly the most recognisable brand in the world. Did you know a bottle of Chanel No.5 perfume is sold every 30 seconds? (pre 2020)- even if you're not a fashion connoisseur we hope you'll enjoy learning about the history of this iconic company. There seemed to be a large amount of laughter and outbursts in this episode so we hope you enjoy our random tangents too! 

Bella treated Katie to a coffee this week, finding a smart play on words to link the theme and in our stylish new mugs we looked like we were heading for the most sophisticated recording yet... until we started talking. In this week's episode of Tits and Tea (recorded in March) we were inspired by Women's History Month and talk about three Warrior Queens from the distant past. We sail into battle with Cleopatra in Ancient Egypt, storm Orleans with Joan of Arc and burn down... well every city we find with Boudicca- Queen of the Iceni. We also compare their lives and challenges as rulers in their time to those of a modern day monarch. Bella's tea offering for this episode sounded like the perfect pairing- Gunpowder tea but it's explosive taste left us a little shocked! We hope you enjoy this episode!
