Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Shafilea Ahmed was the victim of an honour killing in which her parents had murdered her as a result of being 'too westernised', she was violently abused mentally and physically, she was drugged and sent to Pakistan to be married to a cousin much older than her, this led her to drink bleach as a result of desperation to not marry this man, she was isolated, lost and terrified, her parents had thought that she was bringing too much shame on the family which ultimately resulted in her death, she was killed for desiring the very basic things that many of us take for granted.
We felt an urgency to speak about the tragedies that are pervading our communities of police brutality against black individuals!
