Anyone entering the UK illegally, as well as those who have arrived illegally since 1st January, may now be relocated to Rwanda. Priti Patel, Home Secretary, travelled to Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, to sign the agreement. The reason for this innovative approach, as Johnson explained, was to save countless lives from human trafficking, and to disrupt the business model of the gangs. Apparently, this action might stop ‘people smugglers’ from turning the ocean into a ‘water graveyard’, and to deter migrants from arriving the Kent coast illegally. Rwanda’s government says migrants will be under its protection, while giving access to employment, healthcare, and social services.
