Friends of the Rosary,

Our faith in Christ assures us that amid waves of life and even violent storms, he will enable us to cross to the other side, heaven.

In the Gospel today (Mark 4:35-41), we see Christ's dominion over nature when the disciples were in the boat with him, and a violent squall came up, and waves were breaking over the ship.

"They woke him and said to him,
"Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?"

He woke up,
rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Quiet! Be still!"
The wind ceased, and there was great calm.
Then he asked them, "Why are you terrified?
Do you not yet have faith?"

They were filled with great awe and said to one another,
"Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?"

As St. Paul wrote (Heb 11;1-2, 8-19),

"Faith is the realization of what is hoped for
and evidence of things not seen.
Because of it the ancients were well attested."

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of St. John Bosco (1815-1888), the Italian priest who founded the Society of St. Francis de Sales (Salesians) and the Daughters of Mary Auxiliatrix, Help of Christians.

He was the great apostle of youth, an enlightened educator, leader, and innovator centered on persuasion, authentic religiosity, and love for young people. Don Bosco formulated a system of education based on “reason, religion, and kindness.”

Known also as the new St. Vincent de Paul, John Paul II named him “teacher and father to the young.”

Today, we pray for the victims and their families for the victims of the deadly plane crash in Washington, DC. 
That's an invitation to reflect on the precious gift of life and its fulfillment in Christ. And the lamp of the Eternal Word is to be placed to make it visible. 
He says today (Mark 4:21-25)
"For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear."

When you invite Jesus into your life, you are inviting the light into your life.

In today's Gospel reading (Mark 4:1-20), Christ Jesus spoke to the Twelve, explaining the meaning of the parable of the sower who went out to sow. He revealed to them the mystery of the Kingdom of God.

"The sower sows the word.
These are the ones on the path where the word is sown.

As soon as they hear, Satan comes at once 
and takes away the word sown in them.
And these are the ones sown on rocky ground who, 
when they hear the word, receive it at once with joy.
But they have no roots; they last only for a time.

Then, when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, 
they quickly fall away. Those sown among thorns are another sort.
They are the people who hear the word, 
but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, 
and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, 
and it bears no fruit.

But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it
and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold."

Our Lord encourages us to bear fruit by becoming rich soil.

"Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear."

Today, January 28, is the Feast Day of St. Thomas Aquinas, an Italian Dominican priest from the thirteenth century and Doctor of the Church, known for this insightful Summa Theologiae, a masterful presentation of the sacred doctrine.
He also wrote liturgical texts like the Pange Lingua Gloriosi, Tantum Ergo, and Salutaris Hostia.
At the end of his life, a sacristan in Naples witnessed an exchange between Christ and Thomas praying before a crucifix: "You have written well of me, Thomas; what is your reward to be?"
Thomas replied, "Nothing but yourself, Lord."

Today, the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time is the Sunday of the Word of God, instituted by Pope Francis in 2019.

In today's Gospel (Luke 4:14-15), we see Jesus returning to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and teaching in the synagogues being praised by all.

In Nazareth, where he had grown up,
Christ Jesus unrolled a scroll of the prophet Isaiah and read:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

He said to them,
"Today, this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."

Today, January 25, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, when he turned away from the persecution of Christians to promote Christianity.

Born at Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia, of Jewish parents who were descended from the tribe of Benjamin, Saul was a Roman citizen from birth.

To complete his schooling, he was sent to Jerusalem, learned from Gamaliel, and educated in the strict observance of the ancestral Law, becoming a zealous Pharisee and a fanatic against the infant Church.

He took part in the stoning of the first martyr, St. Stephen, and in the fierce persecution of the Christians that followed.

On his way to Damascus to make new arrests, he was suddenly converted by a miraculous apparition of Our Lord.

The conversion took place about five years after our Lord's death.

He was baptized, changed his name from Saul to Paul, and began traveling and preaching the Faith.

From a fierce persecutor, he became the great Apostle of the Gentiles.

He made three missionary journeys to Asia Minor and southern Europe and made many converts. Fourteen of his Epistles are found in the New Testament. He was beheaded in Rome around 66 A.D., and his relics are in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls near the Ostian Way.

The conversion of St. Paul reveals that the mercy of God is more powerful than human sinfulness.

Today is the Memorial of St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622), Bishop and Doctor of the Church.

St. Francis' ardent love of God and souls, his great kindliness, and his rare wisdom made him exceptionally influential in bringing about conversions and guiding souls in the spiritual life. He won back the faith of more than 70,000 heretics.

The saint's Introduction to the Devout Life is most widely known, which, with the Imitation of Christ, is rightly considered the finest outline of Christian perfection.

He proposed God's merciful love as the goal and motive of every human life.

He wrote, "Man is the perfection of the universe; the spirit is the perfection of man; love, that of the spirit; and charity, that of love."

Francis was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1877.

Dozens of millions of unborn babies have been killed in the womb in the U.S. and in the rest of the world.

The number of abortions annually is still well over 900,000, and that number is expected to decrease only by roughly 200,000 each year in a post-Roe America.

The victim has his earthly life terminated. The mother suffers greatly for her actions. We know the devastating consequences that abortion will have in their lives.

The perpetrators will live under the shadow of the unhappiness of rejecting their Creator. Moreover, they will place their eternal salvation in jeopardy.

Therefore, during the week of the March of Life in Washington DC (this Frida), we pray for the protection of the life of the unborn and for the women who feel tempted or forced to commit abortion.

We also pray for the conversion of the perpetrators of abortion: medical personnel, activists, and politicians.

We wish that all abortionists understand the terrible consequences of their actions.

Repentance will benefit both them and our society.
