What do we do when God disappoints us, when Jesus doesn’t do what we expected him to do? John the Baptist’s own dark night of the soul saw him watching from a prison cell just as the Messiah’s ministry was finally taking off.

We venture into a discussion about money and ministry on this episode of BWJ. Are wealthy megachurch pastors like Joel Olsteen or Steven Furtick following the Biblical pattern for ministry laid out by Jesus as they accumulate millions of dollars in the name of our Lord or do they have their reward already here on earth? There are no easy answers.

Jesus goes back home to Nazareth, but he couldn’t do many miracles there. Those who know him best couldn’t get past their own familiarity with “Mary’s boy.” Are those of us today most familiar with Jesus much different?

Jesus has taken too long. Jarius’ twelve year-old daughter had died waiting. Standing in the middle of the street, tears pouring down his face as he hears the news of his daughter, Jesus says to Jarius, “Don’t listen to them. Just trust me.” A crisis of faith.
