This week is #MensHealthWeek
Like any other awareness week, this is to raise awareness and open up conversations about men’s health. I think it’s especially important that we highlight men’s mental health & wellbeing.
Suicide is the biggest cause of death amongst men under the age of 50. The latest UK suicide figures show that on average just under 6,000 people take their own lives every year. Three-quarters of them are men.
Now this figure has increased year-on-year and still, it’s not something which is spoken about and is still a ‘taboo’ subject.
In this episode I shall be talking to Chris who has experienced many different aspects of life but despite how tough it has been at times, Chris has turned those tough and challenging times into something positive and now helps others using his journey.

At the start, this episode features a heartfelt interview from my Local radio station in St Neots, 'Black Cat Radio' with a father who's son tragically committed suicide after struggling with his mental health.
William, a groundsman at Peterborough United football Club, died on February 12 2020 after taking his own life.
Steven said: “I was so proud of that boy, I urge all of you out there with sons and daughters, please talk to your kids.”

Last week (Monday 1st - 9th February 2021) was #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek.
Over last year and a half has been extremely difficult for the majority of us. This has been an exceptionally difficult time for Children & Young People all over the world, causing a surge in problems with their mental health & well-being.
Last week, Paediatricians from around the UK have warned that depression, anxiety, self harm and suicidal thoughts amongst young people are at 'frightening levels'. They have urged the government to open schools for to avoid a 'calamitous' impact on children's mental health.
Schools have been shut in the UK since the very start of the country's third national lockdown which has had a major impact on many people's mental health.
The impact the pandemic is having on young people is being felt all across the globe. In the United States, Las Vegas schools are now reopening after 18 students took their own lives. The youngest amongst those students was just 9 years old.

The importance of our work
- Research by the Department for Education has shown that at least one child in every class is bullied on a daily or weekly basis.
Bullying behaviour can take many forms, often in combination – such as verbal, physical, emotional or cyberbullying. Bullying is a child protection issue by law, and we all have a legal duty to keep children safe from bullying and harm.
Bullying is devastating for young lives. Anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal ideation are common amongst children who experience bullying, and the negative effects can be felt long into adult life, affecting academic achievement, relationships and long term mental and physical health.
We give hope and help to thousands of children and families each year and work with communities throughout England and Wales to help keep children safe.
I talked with Ashley from the National Anti-Bullying Charity Kidscape about Children's mental health week, why it's important and the link with Bullying and mental health.
