In your life thus far, have you ever challenged the system? Have you gone against the grain and came out on top? That’s a superpower. And regardless of what the challenge was, you’re better for it, and few people can say they took that leap.

On this episode, we're hanging out with Andrew Goldstein, the first openly gay male athlete to be drafted by a professional sports league in the US, and the first to play on a professional sports league. ESPN stated that he was “the most accomplished male, team-sport athlete in North America to be openly gay during his playing career.”

Since Andrew, why haven’t we seen another professional men’s lacrosse player come out yet in 15 years? Why haven’t we seen another out men's lacrosse player be drafted to a professional team since?

Why do male athletes struggle with coming out? Is it "toxic masculinity" or is it something more, or less? Me and Andrew have an eye-opening conversation about the ins and outs of a male athlete sharing his sexuality with his team and the world on a huge stage. We discuss his coming out story, how he conquered his demons and doubts and proved to be an incredible ally and support system for young male LGBTQ+ athletes, and is continuing to save lives as a molecular biologist and cancer researcher at UCLA. This man can do it all - take notes guys.

Episode 9

Today we’re hanging out with Wednesday Walton, a former Division I Track runner and hurdler, whose life as a twenty-something thus far has not only included jumping over physical hurdles, but mental ones as well. The culture of track is somewhat of an untold story that deserves to be shone a light on regardless if male or female. But once your sport ends, or your love of it is gone, what do you do next? Wednesday's story is unique, but one that resonates, especially during the pandemic. Body image, loss, identity, careers, therapy, and coming to terms with what makes you, you - this episode is one we will all be able to connect with, athlete or not.

Episode 8

"We come out everyday." - Lindsey Farrell

In this episode I get to hang out with Lindsey - a McDaniel College '19 alum who was a two-sport athlete playing both Women's Soccer and Lacrosse, was the only two-sport athlete at McDaniel who was fully out, and was named Female Athlete Of The Year in 2019. Her article on her coming out story has been published in OutSports and US Lacrosse Magazine - oh, and she's a bada**. 

Lindsey's coming out story is a beacon to all of the athletes out there still in the closet. Her courage, charisma, confidence, and honesty is a wake-up call. Battling derogatory slurs, to hangman confessions, to the art of expanding your village - this episode is one you won't forget.

Share this with someone you love who needs to hear it, whether that be someone afraid to live their true authentic life, a coach or leader in sports who needs to follow by example, or someone who needs to see a different point of view for once... let's expand our village together.

Are you living to work... or working to live? My preference is the latter. Prevalence rates of depression and anxiety are sky-rocketing, especially for women. Take a step back and ask yourself if you're doing everything you can to be happy in this work/life balance. Are you bringing work home with you? Or are you working from home (thanks covid) and can't seem to separate the two anymore? Are you holding yourself back from self-expression outside of your daily duties? Learn some simple tips on how to tap into your feminine energy and leave your work at the front door (or now, the kitchen table). We all need a break every now and then, let's chat.
