Nyarlathotep is a malign deity of the Lovecraft mythos and is considered one of the Outer Gods, or a malevolent pantheon. Initially, Nyarlathotep is described as an Egyptian pharaoh, where he wanders the earth gathering legions of followers. The narrator of the story begins to explain the world’s collapse as the story draws to a close.

Through the Looking Glass was the sequel to Alice in Wonderland (1865) where Alice once again enters the fantastic world beyond. This time, we see a reversed world where the opposite of what you want happens. We also see the emergence of Jabberwocky, The Walrus and the Carpenter, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee, this being the more successful and adapted version of the Alice story that readers remember.

Welcome Traveler… Thank you for joining us on this perilous journey. Last week, we found the first clue set before us by the Dread Pirate Lovecraft. If you’ll recall, the first part read:   

Demoniac clouds, up-pil’d in chasmy reach 

Of soundless heav’n, smother’d the brooding night; 

Nor came the wonted whisp’rings of the swamp, 

Nor voice of autumn wind along the moor, 

Nor mutter’d noises of th’ insomnious grove 

Whose black recesses never saw the sun. 

Within that grove a hideous hollow lies  

Now, for us to set sail, we need to decide which way we’ll follow the winds. From this clue, we know we’re seeking something sinister that only occurs at night, in a swamp during an autumn wind. Within that swamp is a grove where a hideous hollow lies. That’s where we’re heading. But we don’t know enough to get there yet so we must be vigilant and seek out as many clues as possible. While avoiding the monsters and sinister evils at every turn. Our journey may be long, but the rewards will be greater than we’ve ever imagined, should we survive.   

Our options are thus. Our current position is several miles from Innsmouth and Arkham to the north, or we can go south to Kingsport. What do you choose?

Shelley traveled through Europe in 1815 along the river Rhine in Germany stopping in Gernsheim, 17 kilometres (11 mi) away from Frankenstein Castle, where two centuries before, an alchemist engaged in experiments. She then journeyed to the region of Geneva, Switzerland, where much of the story takes place. The topic of galvanism and occult ideas were themes of conversation among her companions, particularly her lover and future husband Percy B. Shelley. Mary, Percy and Lord Byron had a competition to see who could write the best horror story. After thinking for days, Shelley dreamt about a scientist who created life and was horrified by what he had made, inspiring the novel.

Though Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story. In contrast to previous stories with fantastical elements resembling those of later science fiction, Aldiss states the central character ‘makes a deliberate decision’ and ‘turns to modern experiments in the laboratory’ to achieve fantastic results. It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films and plays.

Mask of the Red Death, also called Masque of the Red Death, follows Prince Prospero’s attempts to save himself and others from the plague, called the Red Death, in his grand abbey. He brings along numerous nobles and builds seven strange rooms, each decorated with a different color. During their revelry, a mysterious man disguised as the Red Death appears and terrifies everyone.

In the isolated, desolate, decrepit village of Dunwich, Massachusetts, Wilbur Whateley is the hideous son of Lavinia Whateley, a deformed and unstable albino mother, and an unknown father (alluded to in passing by mad Old Whateley, as "Yog-Sothoth"). Strange events surround his birth and precocious development. Wilbur matures at an abnormal rate, reaching manhood within a decade. Locals shun him and his family, and animals fear and despise him due to his odor. All the while, his sorcerer grandfather indoctrinates him into certain dark rituals and the study of witchcraft. Various locals grow suspicious after Old Whateley buys more and more cattle, yet the number of his herd never increases, and the cattle in his field become mysteriously afflicted with severe open wounds. #thedunwichhorror #hplovecraftdunwichhorror #hplovecraft
