Late lies the wintry sun a-bed, 聽聽
A frosty, fiery sleepy-head; 聽聽
Blinks but an hour or two; and then, 聽聽
A blood-red orange, sets again. 聽聽
Before the stars have left the skies,聽
At morning in the dark I rise; 聽聽
And shivering in my nakedness, 聽聽
By the cold candle, bathe and dress. 聽聽
Close by the jolly fire I sit 聽聽
To warm my frozen bones a bit;聽
Or with a reindeer-sled, explore 聽聽
The colder countries round the door. 聽聽
When to go out, my nurse doth wrap 聽聽
Me in my comforter and cap; 聽聽
The cold wind burns my face, and blows聽
Its frosty pepper up my nose. 聽聽
Black are my steps on silver sod; 聽聽
Thick blows my frosty breath abroad; 聽聽
And tree and house, and hill and lake, 聽聽
Are frosted like a wedding-cake.
