  • Remembering & Honoring Legendary Cobra Pilot Larry Taylor with Vietnam Veteran Dave Hill

Earlier this month the United States Army's First Infantry Division named a road after Chattanooga native Medal and of Honor recipient Captain Larry Taylor on the base at Fort Riley in Kansas.

This is the latest of many honors for Larry Taylor. Several of them have come after he passed in late January of this year.

Recently, I had a conversation with Dave Hill.

Dave and Larry Taylor were friends for a very long time.

Dave Hill is the last surviving member of the 4 man LURP team who Taylor rescued in June of 1968 in the combat action that would earn Captain Taylor the Medal of Honor 55 years later.

Also, Dave Hill along with several others worked for years pushing for Taylor to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

In this episode I talk to Dave about several topics.

The interview was conducted on a bus. We were on a trip through North Georgia with a few dozen descendants of 4 of the Andrews' Raiders from the Civil War.

Two Civil War soldiers were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor at the White House on July 3rd.

From 1863 to 1883, nineteen members of the Andrews' Raiders were awarded the Medal of Honor, but for 162 years Wilson and Shadrach never received recognition for their part in the Great Locomotive Chase. On July 3, 2024, the historical record was officially corrected.
