I’m delighted to share that the Two Oceans Aquarium is once again opening their doors
to hopeful students that wish to follow a career in Marine Biology.
The Two Oceans Aquarium will again be running courses in 2020 for Grade 10-12
students interested in Marine Biology – all you need to do is apply. Applications for the
Phytoplankton, Algae and Animal Phyla in South African coastal waters course is
offered at no charge, to 50 grade 11s and 12s who show a keen interest in marine
sciences and who may wish to pursue a career in this field.

Today is world cancer day – a day celebrated globally to show support for everyone
affected by cancer and raise awareness of the disease.
According to the WHO, globally one in six deaths are due to cancer. It is the second
leading cause of death, responsible for 9.6 million deaths in 2018.
In a report published today, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that, if
current trends continue, the world will see a 60% increase in cancer cases over the next
two decades. The greatest increase (an estimated 81%) in new cases will occur in lowand
middle-income countries, where survival rates are currently lowest.

The City of Cape Town’s enforcement agencies issued more than 56 000 fines over the
past week, with 164 people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to a press release from the City of Cape Town, Traffic Service and the Metro
Police Department issued more than 56 000 fines for various offences over the last five
days for minor transgressions such as an expired license to more serious offences such
as speeding, inconsiderate driving, jumping red traffic lights and stop street offences to
name a few.
Cape Town Traffic Services arrested 315 suspects, impounded 226 vehicles, 127 cell
phones and issued 54 111 fines from 26 January to 2 February.
