TONKOCAST

For this special edition Tonkocast, our Directors, Robert Kondo and Chris Sasaki, interview the incredible Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo.

Jean-charles has directed films like Make It Soul (2018), The Sense of Touch (2014), and Le coeur est un metronome (2007). His highly influential work has traveled all over the world, but don't let us tell you, hear it from the man himself on Tonkocast #27.

Our guests are Director Carlos Baena and Production Designer Eve Skylar from the incredible horror short film La Noria.

La Noria tells the story of a boy who, after a devastating loss, encounters some creatures who turn his life upside down.

The film was created via online collaboration with artists from around the world.

Our Tonkocast guests today are the creators of the heart-meltingly-sweet stop-motion short film Lost&Found (2018), Directors Bradley Slabe and Andrew Goldsmith.

Lost&Found tells the story of a toy dinosaur who must make a difficult decision to save the love of its life. The film just wrapped a festival tour in the U.S. and we are thrilled to share their process and creative journey with you all on this Tonkocast#30!

Today's Tonkocast guest is Steve Yang, the founder and CEO of ZamyGo. Robert and Steve will talk about how the first Tonko House Korea Exhibition came to be; and how their two completely different career paths lead to one of our most exciting exhibitions to date.

Our guests for Tonkocast #16 are our 2017 semester interns! Nicolle Castro, Tamara Chang, Ray Landa, and Ruby Wang.

***Unfortunately our other intern Asami Kanzaki wasn't able to make it to the studio on the day of recording!

Our Tonkocast #9 guests are Eric Darnell and Maureen Fan from Baobab Studios, one of the leading content creation studios in the world of VR!

CEO Maureen Fan worked with us during her internship at Pixar and on independent projects such as Totoro Forest Projects, Sketchtravel and The Dam Keeper.

Creative Director Eric Darnell is the world famous animation film director of the Madascar movies.

Our Tonkocast #4 guests are the filmmakers behind the award winning and Oscar nominated animated short, Borrowed Time. Amanda Jones, Lou Hamou-Lhadj and Andrew Coats were our colleagues at Pixar and Blue Sky. They took a similar path in creating an independent animated short film while working at Pixar as we did with The Dam Keeper. Sharing the experience of how hard it is to actually "FINISH" an independent project while working full time we discussed in depth how the Borrowed Time production was able to be completed.

We truly look forward to their next career paths after this giant achievement.

Our guest for Tonkocast #15 is Shuzo Shiota, CEO of Japan's leading CG animation studio Polygon Pictures Inc. He worked on Transformers Prime (2010), Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2014) and Lost in Oz (2015).

Our guests for Tonkocast #14 are our very own Sam Marin and Courtney Lockwood. Although not at Tonko House they are professional voice actors. Here what it's like to be behind the mic!

Our guest for Tonkocast #13 is Robert Valley, legendary independent animation filmmaker. His latest film Pear Cider and Cigarettes is nominated for 2017 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
