TRIGGER WARNING: This episode heavily discusses sexual assault.
We interview Kim Witmer and Riley Holm of The NO Society, a local non-profit organization and blog dedicated to providing support and community for sexual assault survivors. What inspired Riley and Kim to start The NO Society? How can we be there for our friends who have survived sexual assault? When is the right time to tell others about the sexual assault we've experienced? And where do we go from there?

How do we combat the haters? Especially when said haters are "friends" or family? In this episode, we talk all about the unexpected tolls veganism took on our personal relationships, embracing our true selves, and adjusting to the fact that rings true for all of us in some way, shape or form: not everyone in life is going to like you.

What would a patriarchy-free world look like? Would makeup, dieting, and exercise exist? Would women have the confidence to pursue more things? This Wednesday, we get into body image during quarantine, how the portrayal of women in movies and porn contributes to comparing ourselves, and how women feeling self-conscious isn't really a problem created by women, but more-so a problem created by (you guessed it) MEN!

We talk glow ups and how the body positivity movement has issues, unpack body neutrality and shift the focus to body confidence and how womxn can feel better in their skin, despite what the patriarchy says. We also talk manifestation, comparing ourselves to celebrities and the ways films & video games exploit women’s bodies for the male gaze. Get ready to get angry. TW: brief mentions of rape/sexual assault.
Body Positivity Is a Scam
We get personal and discuss disordered eating, our experiences with eating disorders and IBS, and the societal pressures (especially for women) and expectations of what, how and why we eat. We also touch on skinny privilege and fatphobia in our society. Every experience and struggle is valid, but we recognize and discuss the fact that fat women are more deeply marginalized than skinny women. We ALWAYS want to be able to check ourselves so please never hesitate to send us a message if we accidentally mess up or say something that doesn’t sit right with you. MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING for this one. Love always, Jess & Mandy.
