This week is a very important one for the Too Slow To Disco family: on Friday we are finally - after endless Corona-caused delays, detours, pains - releasing our long awaited Volume 2 of THE LADIES OF TO SLOW TO DISCO. To celebrate this, DJ Supermarkt has produced this mega mix, full of 22 lost classics and should-have-been-hits by female artists from both volumes, ranging from 1974-82. The songs on volume 2 are from women who were taking control of their own careers, making an independent stance in the some of the most trying years for women in the history of the recording industry. In an effort to tell the often untold, yet deeply influential, stories of this delicious period of music, Volume 2 highlights songs from players who broke through the machismo that sat upon the glass ceiling before them to create classics. What a weird time! It took me some time to come up with the right idea for a radio show in this crazy moment. After my first thoughts of doing a concept-like show about curing, healing with songs about it, I realised that the thing people need now most is probably quite simple: Too Slow To Disco…., or another hour of mellow music to soothe the soul and keep us all from having a nervous breakdown and staying sane and safe. There is a small shadow over this month's sunny ride that is our usual Too Slow To Disco show: The passing of Andrew Weatherall. Like many others of my generation I started listening to dance music because of his early remixes and productions for Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, Saint Etienne. He made me come out of my pure white Indie-corner and embrace electronic music, dub a.m.m.. He is maybe THE MOST IMPORTANT and influential DJ/producer to me, because - looking back - he single handedly sparked the light that made me become a DJ (and do whatever I do all my life now, for example this here). So this month's show starts with a tribute to the man, featuring one of his not so obvious works, which I am very much in love with for ages: "Smokebelch“ (beatless mix) as Sabres Of Paradise. Here we go again. This one is dedicated to the new Tarantino movie: Interesting to see how Hollywood obviously finds and embraces cool, small things, like this little radio show. In case you haven’t seen the new Tarantino movie „Once Upon A Time In Hollywood“, it is full of Radio KHJ 93 L.A. commercial bits from the 70s to describe the atmosphere best. Something we do in our mixes since 2014. Even better: The official soundtrack has the commercials and station IDs in it too, so it sounds a bit like what we do here. Music is a give and take, so I actually like Tarantino’s idea.
