Toonami Absolution

We revisit our youth with Pokémon: The First Movie (or Mewtwo Strikes Back).

An utter nostalgia bomb of a film, we dig into its weird release history, its terrible dub, and talk about how, for many 90s kids Pokémon: The First Movie, was the first anime film they ever saw.

The Beast Wars begin!

This week we start a new Western Cartoon block with Alyx's choice: Beast Wars, the weirdest entry in the Transformers franchise. Expect giant apes, dinosaur Megatron and a lot of confusing lore that only gets more tangled the longer things go on.

This week we continue our Cowboy Bebop re-watch with Gateway Shuffle and Honky Tonk Women. Because of this we say the phrase "Ape Virus" frequently. We also talk about the live-action Cowboy Bebop and wonder what went wrong...

Well, it finally happened. Jon let the voices win and we're diving into Jonny Quest vs The Cyber Insects, a forgotten Toonami movie that Jon wanted to watch simply because they had never heard of it.

Watch as Jonny, Hadji, Jessie, Race Bannon and Dr Quest attempt to stop the evil Doctor Zin and his army of weird robot bugs. Enjoy our realization that, while Toonami became a major force, it wasn't so cool in its early days.

We wrap up season 1 of Space Ghost Coast to Coast with a weird mixture of guests. Famous TV psychologist Joyce Brothers attempts to save Space Ghost from himself, Rich Hall brings his usual gruff charm, and Danny Bonaduce is just himself.

Plus, Space Ghost enjoys some Sonic the Hedgehog, in what might be the weirdest bit of cross-promotion in Cartoon Network history.

Get ready to feel those asteroid blues as we begin our rewatch of Cowboy Bebop! We love Cowboy Bebop here at Toonami Absolution, so it was only natural we would cover it pretty early on.

In these first two episodes we meet Jet Black and Spike Spiegel, as well as Ein, the little data dog that will become the show's mascot. Also, we dive into the first night of Adult Swim!

We end Halloween week with Perfect Blue, Satoshi Kon's legendary tale of identity, horror, and confusion. But what will our trip into Mina's Room bring?

Zoinks!

In the second part of our trick or treat week, Jon subjects Sam and Alyx to the Scooby-Doo project, an often forgotten Cartoon Network special that dropped Mystery Inc into the Blair Witch project.

Trick or Treat!

To celebrate the Halloween season, we're taking a week off from Toonami to present the Absolution trick or treat. Each host has brought one spooky or Halloween-themed thing to share. Alyx is kicking us off with two episodes of Hellsing Ultimate, the 2006 vampire anime that pushed the envelope when it comes to gore.
