This week during the great hiatus of 2023 (for this podcast, anyway, although if there’s something you can take a break from, I support you!), I’m replaying the three episodes with the most listens. Today’s is from the last week of 2021, when my friend Terri Trespicio, author of the book Unfollow Your Passion, was my co-host for the week and shared several anti-resolutions for the year ahead.
This was far and away the most popular anti-resolution–and was, in fact, the most popular episode I’ve ever released.
It is: Stop Being Nice.
Despite the fact that women have been socialized to be nice above all else, it's not actually a very noble goal. Does that mean you should go out and let your a-hole flag fly? Or become outright mean? Goodness, no. It just means you set your sights on something different--something that takes a lot less energy than being nice AND that gives you more energy, because it's gratifying.
