Top 5 Tips for New Teachers

Guise’s 5

  1. Set Goals
  2. Come up with an organizational system that works for you
  3. Come into teaching with a Growth Mindset
  4. Learn as much as you can about your students
  5. Be a part of a PLN (I like Twitter)

Nick’s 5

  1. Get to know the Secretaries and Custodians
  2. Observe Veteran Teachers
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help
  4. Lean on your mentors
  5. Say yes

Top 5 Tips for Returning Teachers

Nick’s 5

  1. Don’t be afraid to cut back, but choose 1 new piece of edtech to learn this year
  2. Focus on getting organized (digitally and in your classroom)
  3. Pick something you’ve always wanted to do and do it (empty out an old shelf, join a committee, etc)
  4. Develop a new lunch routine
  5. Behaviorism works - learn it (choice, limit attention for negative behaviors, pick your battles)

  1. Continue to grow your PLN
  2. Expand your practice through reflection
  3. Reach out and lend a hand to your new teachers
  4. Avoid Burnout by trying something new
  5. Find ways to be more efficient with your time
