Historic Saranac Lake is on the road this summer collecting stories in the Tri-Lakes region, using a mobile version of Saranac Lake's cure cottages. The Cure Porch on Wheels was officially unveiled last month, and organizers hope it becomes an iconic venue for recording and listening to stories from the region.

(Jul 31, 2019) The St. Lawrence River has changed a lot in the last century, from the construction of the Seaway in the 1950s to record high water levels in recent years. One local celebrity in the Thousand Islands, who turned 95 on Wednesday, looks back on his life on the river.

Mary McGowan is the administrative director at Meadowmount School of Music. She first heard about the camp when her daughter wanted to attend Meadowmount back in 2001. The camp is expensive but McGowan found that she could work in exchange for her daughter’s tuition. She started out as a camp counselor.

It’s high summer, hot and humid. That makes for perfect swimming weather. Unfortunately, it also breeds perfect conditions for dangerous bacteria blooms. On Lake Champlain, volunteer monitors have already seen an uptick in the number of blooms - sometimes known as blue-green algae. Climate change could cause even more outbreaks in the future.
