North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik was at the center of a fierce debate yesterday in Washington over the Violence Against Women Act.
Stefanik, a Republican, urged lawmakers to pass a version of the bill to help protect women from domestic violence. But she fought to drop new gun control restrictions affecting people convicted of misdemeanor abuse and stalking charges.
