Northern Lights Choir hosts its Winter Concert on Friday night at 8 pm at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. Northern Lights Choir director Helen Demong says the theme for the concert is community with the title, "The Road Home. "The concert is considered by many in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Keene Valley and Tupper Lake to be a traditional event that kicks off the holiday season.The performance by the 70-voice, multi-generational community choir will include choral pieces from across the spectrum of time and genre and will feature a variety of styles from traditional holiday music and songs of different cultures. The Adirondack Film Society will present a special screening, and a North Country premiere, at the Palace Theatre in Lake Placid on Friday at 7 pm of a new award-winning documentary, Denial" The film was produced and co-created by Elizabethtown filmmaker Aaron Woolf, best known for his documentary about Big Agriculture, King Corn. This new film tackles the complex issues of renewable energy and climate change by following the path of Vermont electric utility CEO David Hallquist. But when his son, Derek, who directs the film, tries to tell his father's story, the film is soon derailed by a family secret: David Hallquist is a woman inside, soon to be named Christine. Todd Moe spoke with Aaron Wolf about the new film, that includes intimate family moments and the story of Hallquist's struggle to build a green energy company. Wolf says the documentary tries to unite the themes of climate change and gender identity.
