Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he’ll sign an executive order committing the state to meet the Paris climate accord standards, calling President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the agreement “reckless” and “irresponsible.”New York state already has begun a plan to get 50 percent of the state’s energy from renewable sources, like wind and solar, by 2030. But it is not without some controversy.

There could be a major change to the bus system in Plattsburgh this summer. Some Clinton County officials want to eliminate a special service for people with disabilities who live in the city. It’s called paratransit, and it’s separate from the regular bus routes. Passengers can call ahead and a bus will come pick them up at home or wherever they are, kind of like a taxi service. The local transit agency says the service is too expensive.

The Moriah Chamber of Commerce and Champlain Area Trails will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday by hosting hikes on four local trails. CATS is a nonprofit organization that creates and maintains hiking and cross-country ski trails in the Champlain Valley. The four trails are Belfry Mountain Trail, Big Hollow/Coot Hill Trail, Cheney Mountain Trail, and Crowfoot Pond Trail.Chris Maron, CATS executive director, says the trails range from easy to moderate. He says anyone who successfully completes the Moriah Challenge will receive a commemorative embroidered patch to celebrate the accomplishment. The hikes officially kick off Saturday morning at 10 am, but the public is welcome to join in any time throughout the day.Maron says he hopes the Moriah Challenge will inspire people to explore the Champlain Valley.

President Donald Trump is expected to announce today whether he will withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.
