In 1968, Sue Abott Jones had just graduated from college, when her parents decided they were leaving New Jersey to live in the Adirondacks. They'd bought The Woodruff Motel in Keene, with a dream of owning their own business and living in the country. She remembers saying:

“I will not move up to this po-dunk area. And I moved to San Francisco!”

The Adirondack Park Agency says two developers in Warren County spent the last five years building a new tourism resort without any permits. Owners of the Brampton allegedly violated state environment and health laws and also failed to comply with fire and safety codes.

It will be very cold today and tonight, and remain below freezing through the weekend. There is deep snow, at least one to two feet, around the Adirondack Park and more at higher elevations, as much as 5-6 feet in some places, and the risk of avalanches on steep open terrain remains.
