If Disney never made the 2004 movie “Miracle,” most Americans born after 1980 may not have heard of Lake Placid, its Winter Olympics that year or the famed “Miracle on Ice” hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Yet Lake Placid can trace its Olympic lineage to 1920, when this tiny Adirondack village hosted its first internationally sanctioned event - the North American speed skating championships on Mirror Lake for U.S. and Canadian athletes.
