interesting storyline, but a little bit far out there.

OK. in the authors defense, I know where he was going with this. The symbolism with the bobcat etc. however made the storyline very confusing in places. I think it was a great concept, and a great try, but the book seems to be leaving a lot to be desired. it was a good read, don't get me wrong, but it definitely was not one of my favorites.

Lizzie, her father Julian and her brother Ig live together in a house in North London. Lizzie and Ig are adults who didn't fly the nest. Their nest is the house that their mother Margaret made into their sanctuary during their childhood, into adulthood and then she died. Margaret lives on in their memories and their routines and in her belongings that are scattered around the house, left in the places that she put them. Lizzie feels that to disturb Margaret's belongings would disturb their memories.

They have always been an unconventional family. Julian and Margaret led a bohemian lifestyle of travel and drugs, flared trousers and sheepskin jackets, swirling colours of crushed velvet and sparkling costume jewellery. Lizzie and Ig have continued this theme; Lizzie is a struggling actress whilst Ig is an alternative therapist and surrounds himself with joss sticks and meditative music.

Although two years have passed since Margaret's death, the family still mourn. They feel incomplete without her presence and their comfort is in their house, surrounded by memories of her. Look At Me is beautifully constructed, the prose is sparse and revealing. Sarah Duguid's characters are flawed and keenly observed. This story is a glimpse into a family that have barely papered over the cracks caused by grief, and is then fully exposed by secrets that cannot remain hidden.

Lizzie's voice is strong, she is impetuous, remorseful and determined that her family will continue to mourn Margaret, yet she is also passionate and spontaneous when she becomes involved with man who remains nameless. Julian is unrepentant, a nonconformist who refuses to acknowledge that his actions have hurt and will continue to hurt those closest to him. And Eunice; the unsettling, yet lovable young woman who rocks the boat so hard, and makes waves that will change things forever.

Look At Me is polished, precise and sensitive. Sarah Duguid is a very skilled and capable author, this is a short novel that packs a very heavy punch.

Is this a must read? Definitely!

This is, by far, the best book i have ever read! It was a joy reading this book. There is so much to learn and so much to relate to in it. The kids of this generation have new problems to face and this book can tell you every thing about it and more importantly, how to solve them. The art of teaching is more than just explaining a book to a bunch of kids. It is where students and teachers build their bond and learn so much from each other. The teacher has to be their best friend and it is said that if you learn from a friend, so much more than textual knowledge can be gained. That can be accomplished by a true teacher who understands the pressure kids go through these days and help them enjoy their childhood. How is that possible? the book explains it all.

Learning is not for the 'now', it is for 'forever'. Teachers and students have a connection no one else has and this book tells you all about it. When you read his book, thoughts like "hey, that happened to me!" or "how true" always come.

Teachers also go through a lot of pressure and it takes talent to master the art of teaching. But, teachers become teachers by choice, not by chance. There have several books that try and explain student and teacher life, but, according to me, none have surpassed the ' WANTED BACK- BENCHER AND LAST -RANKER TEACHER'.

The teaching experience of Roma, the protagonist of this story, has been a wonderful learning experience for her, her fellow teachers and her students. Though this story is fiction, the incidents and life experiences happen in each student's life and this could teach parents, students and teachers them. The kindness, care, right attitude to handle a class and so much more has been described in the book and surely, if you want to be a teacher yourself, you cannot miss reading this book!

Yes, i have read all of David Joseph's stories and am a fan. But this audiobook far exceds the written version. Great narration!

beautifully written

This is a gentle story about a middle aged woman growing up, along with those around her. The character development is well done and the dialog (about which I am quite fussy) is spot on. Although this genre is a bit out of my comfort zone I couldn't put it down. Having recently visited Charleston, I was able to re-enjoy the locale, and the legal details rang true. The nursing home vignettes were amusingly gruesome. In all, a winner.

Ok. The book has a really cute dog in it. I think Robinson got the dog behavior right, although the human behavior seemed a little extreme at times and, at the same time, not very interesting. Also, for a light weight book like this I like to see everything wrapped up with a happy ending for all. ****SPOILER ALERT****

****SPOILER ALERT**** The ending would have been more satisfying if the heroine had accepted the care of the rescued beagle the vet offered her. I also think it would be more realistic because who would be stupid enough to decline the offer of an adorable dog when she had just had a wonderful experience temporarily caring for one? Big mistake if you ask me.

This is a lite but very enjoyable read. I have spent alot of time in Charleston so I was familiar with the location. The book seemed to go by so quickly. Anyone who has been in or had complicated relationships will have a deeper understanding of this story. It did leave you wondering the outcome in several places. And now I am ordering the next book although my fondness for cats is less than for dogs.

Sweet and quick read

Sweet story and quick read. The dog is not really the focus of the story, just a conduit for the novel to get into all the messy human entanglements. The story is told in first person pov which is the lawyer.
