The support group at the Chicago Torture Justice Center meet weekly and decided to record one session in the hopes that others will start a support. They use a model of politicized healing in which they seek to change systems of oppression rather than to change themselves. This episode features a group session of torture survivors.

This episode features La Tanya Sublett, a torture survivor, woman, and Director of Holistic and Liberatory Peer Reentry. She speaks directly to some the issues women face as they experience police violence, incarceration, and release from prison. The new mayor elect visited the Chicago Torture Justice Center (CTJC) and the Chicago Torture Memorial CTJM). This podcast asked survivors of police tortured at the hands of Jon Burge and the Midnight crew: "what would you like to see from the new mayor-elect Brandon Johnson?" CTJC was constructed to provide help for people that are impacted by state sponsored violence. CTJM will capture and memorialize the events that led to the first and only reparations for African Americans that acknowledges the crimes of the Chicago Police Department against the citizens of Chicago.

The CTJC and the CTJM offers psychological and counseling services, reentry programs for returning citizens, community organizing and court support, case management, and other programs. They hold community meetings as Realize and Implementing Strategies for Ending Police Violence (RISE). The mayor-elect has made commitments to support the efforts of the center.

This is the first episode of voices of Torture Survivors in Chicago.  These men and women survived torture by a system that include Chicago Police officers (Jon Burge) and whose case was argued in front of the United Nations.  It is the first case to win reparations in the United States for people of African Decent.
