  • Bon Jovi’s 'Slippery When Wet' (1986): The Hits, The Hair, & The History

Grab your hairspray and your jean jacket, because this week Dave and Rob are turning the clock back to 1986 to tackle one of the biggest rock albums of all time: Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet. With over 28 million copies sold worldwide, this powerhouse record gave us legendary anthems like "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Wanted Dead or Alive." But forty years after its release, we have to ask the ultimate question: does it still hold up as a masterpiece, or has it lost its edge?

To help us settle the debate, we are thrilled to welcome back our good friend and resident rock aficionado, Dustin, to join the analysis! Together, the trio breaks down the tracklist, dissects the massive production that defined the arena-rock era, and discusses the cultural legacy of Jon, Richie, and the boys. Hit that play button to see if we're halfway there, or if this album is just shot through the heart—and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

  • 1985 vs. 1995: Let’s Go Go get a Kiss From a Rose

What happens when you pit the neon-soaked, high-energy pop of the mid-80s against the smooth R&B and heavy hip-hop beats of the mid-90s? In this episode, Dave and Rob go head-to-head in the ultimate musical time-travel debate: 1985 vs. 1995. By pulling up the data and looking at the official top 5 year-end hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 for each year, the guys break down how a single decade completely transformed the landscape of popular music.

We’re matching up the smooth saxophone of Wham!’s "Careless Whisper" and Madonna’s untouchable "Like a Virgin" against the genre-defining power of Coolio’s "Gangsta’s Paradise" and TLC’s legendary double-feature of "Waterfalls" and "Creep." Dave and Rob unpack the cultural impact, the production styles, and how these tracks have aged over the years. Hit that play button to find out which mid-decade lineup took home the crown, and let us know in the comments below: are you team ’85 or team ’95?

  • Summer Hits of 1996; Tupac, Mariah and The Macarena

Dust off your pagers and grab a Surge soda! This week, Dave and Rob are hopping into the time machine and dialing the coordinates to June 9th, 1996. The box office was dominated by Mission: Impossible, the Macarena was slowly taking over the planet, and the Billboard Hot 100 was a wild mix of legendary hip-hop, R&B royalty, alt-rock, and powerhouse vocalists

What makes this specific week so legendary is the sheer, whiplash-inducing sonic contrast sharing real estate on the charts. It was a bizarre and beautiful era where the mournful, rapid-fire hip-hop harmonies of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and 2Pac’s aggressive West Coast swagger sat side-by-side with the pristine, sweeping adult contemporary ballads of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Throw in the raw acoustic storytelling of Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette’s alt-rock bite, and a rising, inescapable bilingual novelty dance craze like the Macarena, and you get a snapshot of a musical landscape that was wildly fragmented yet universally massive

This week, Dave, Rob, and Kurt are strapping into the cockpit to tackle Tony Scott’s 1986 pop-culture juggernaut, Top Gun. Listeners can expect the trio to break down how this high-octane blend of aerial choreography, synthesizers, and pure machismo defined an era of Hollywood filmmaking. Dave will likely dive deep into the movie’s legendary soundtrack—debating whether "Danger Zone" or "Take My Breath Away" reigns supreme—while Rob will undoubtedly analyze the sheer kinetic energy of the dogfights and the film's lasting impact on action cinema
