"Divorce isn't such a tragedy. A tragedy's staying in an unhappy marriage..." ~Jennifer Werner
Today on Fridays with Nin... we talk the "D" word. DIVORCE... its something both Stef and I have been through and we want to talk about it. Divorce for many is earth shattering, traumatizing and complicated. Complicated on so many levels. We talk about our own experiences, reasons behind divorce, statistics on divorce and some interesting divorce facts around the world.
How many times in life does someone get the chance to start over? For some, that can be daunting and scary, but for many it can be the chance to truly live your truth and live your life the way you have always dreamt of living it.

On today's episode of 90's Crime Talk with Stef, we delve into the heartbreaking case of the San Antonio Four, a group of four women whose lives were irreversibly changed by a miscarriage of justice. This story begins in the early 1990s when Elizabeth Ramirez, Anna Vasquez, Cassandra Rivera, and Kristie Mayhugh, four close friends living in San Antonio, Texas, were accused of an absolutely heinous crime that would shake their lives to the core.
As we explore the case, we talk about the investigation (or lack thereof) and trials that led to the women's wrongful convictions. We also discuss the role of societal prejudices, homophobia, and the "Satanic panic" hysteria that influenced the case's outcome. During our discussion, our understanding of the case grows (as does our anger) as we learn of the devastating impact of the system's failure on the lives of these women and their loved ones.
Trigger Warnings: homophobia and mentions/descriptions of sexual assault.

We had so much fun last week talking about alternative groups of the 90's, but the majority of our episode pertained to the men of then. Today we focus on female alternative artists that owned the music scene back then. Can you guess who our favorites are? Press play and find out!

On this episode of Fridays with Nin, we get personal and ask Stef questions about the LGBTQ+ community. For outsiders looking in on a topic that they are not familiar with or for topics that are more "sensitive", people tend to run away from asking the hard questions. But like they say, "knowledge is power". Getting informed, asking questions that aren't always easy and educating yourself about something that is confusing, is more than appreciated for the opposing side. So that is what I am doing today. I am asking some questions that I personally would like to see and know from Stef's point of view. But, I also want to stress the importance of handling situations like this with grace, vulnerability and kindness. Thank you Stef for being such an open book and always handling things with love, and an open mind.

When you think of the 90's what is one of the first things that come to mind? For us one of the first things, will ALWAYS be Alternative rock music. Bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Sound garden, Matchbox 20, LIVE and Green day... (Just to name a few) had a big part in who we are today and defined our friendship in many ways. Needless to say, alternative music ran deep in our veins and we enjoyed reminiscing about some of our favorite bands to date. Lets see if you can relate to our favs this time around... This is definitely a two parter... Stay tuned for the next episode. We hope you enjoy it!!

On today's episode of 90s Crime Talk with Stef, we discuss the murder of Scott Amedure, or as it is more commonly referred to as the Jenny Jones murder. Scott Amedure was a charismatic and openly gay man who appeared on "The Jenny Jones Show" in March 1995, hoping to confess his secret crush on his straight acquaintance, Jonathan Schmitz. Little did Scott know that this revelation would set in motion a sequence of events that would end in a shocking act of violence. Just three days after appearing on the show, Jonathan confronted Scott at his home, armed with a shotgun. In a horrific act of violence, Jonathan ended Scott's life, forever altering the course of both their destinies. The trial that followed would captivate the nation, as the defense argued the concept of "gay panic," a controversial defense strategy at the time, while others placed a huge chunk of the blame on the Jenny Jones show. Join us as we discuss the events leading up to Scott Amedure's untimely death, shedding light on the consequences of sensationalistic television and the devastating aftermath of unrequited love.
Trigger warnings for discussions of violence, murder, and emotional distress. Listener discretion is advised.
