Tour Guide Tell All episodes

  • Black History at Arlington National Cemetery

"And his experience is not unique.  There were men who fought in World War I, Black soldiers who would be beaten up for wearing their uniforms, who would be attacked for talking about their service….and it’s exceptionally tough for these World War I veterans of color who come back."

Our Black History Month series kicks off with an exploration of service and sacrifice in uniform. Tour Guide Tell All comes back to the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery to explore some of the notable figures of Black history laid to rest on the grounds and the often-untold stories of those that called the land home.  Learn about Maria Syphax, Uncle Jim, a freedman's village, "Black Death," a highly decorated father-son duo, and more.

  • History of Presidential Inaugurations Part (Tippecanoe & Tyler) II
“You can sort of imagine the way it breaks down - Harrison is obviously going to run on this platform of Martin Van Buren as a snob, as an elite, as someone who has fiddled while the nation has burned economically - and he is going to portray himself as a war hero and a simple man of the frontier.  Which is not really what he is but that sort is the persona he is going to keep pushing forward"

Tour Guide Tell All digs into the tumultuous election of 1840, where a financial crisis, new forms of campaigning, and two interesting candidates led to a blow-out election followed by an unprecedented presidency.  Learn about Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, 19th century campaign songs, inauguration trivia, and more.

  • History of Presidential Inaugurations (Part I)
“What I would like to see is the moving out of the White House. So the way that this happens, at exactly noon when the legal transfer of power takes place there is a small army of staff that basically fans out across the White House, they literally wrap up all the stuff from the old presidents house and cabinet. All the personal items are going to go to whatever address they are moving next, all their official documents get sent to their archive and at the same time they unpack all the stuff from the new president.”

Welcome to our Presidential Inauguration episode, Part I. Tour Guide Tell All is celebrating the 59th Presidential Inauguration by talking about all the other ones! Join Becca and Rebecca as we discuss the history of inaugurations, the ones we have planned for and the ones we haven’t.  We have some stories, fun trivia and more. The Vice Presidents get their due as well, and we discuss their own swearing in procedures.

“So, the party. It's New Year's Eve 1921 to 1922. Remus is going to throw this massive party. He invites 100 people of the finest families in Cincinnati, and he’s going to give them all kinds of crazy party gifts. This is the party you want to go to.  If you’re a gentleman you get a diamond stick pin. And you get a brand new Pontiac car if you’re a lady. And this is 1921, cars are a luxury item in 1921.”

Tour Guide Tell All wants to celebrate New Year's Eve in style, with the absolute best New Year's Eve party in history!  We are taking you back to the 1920s, where Prohibition forms the backdrop for a forgotten but fascinating criminal bootlegger.

Help us welcome 2021 as we discuss George Remus, a man who could entertain with the best of them, the so-called "King of the Bootleggers", and the real-life inspiration for one of the most famous figures in American literature, Jay Gatsby.

  • Christmas Traditions at the White House
"But really, most of what I think the average American Family associates with Christmas or the Holiday Season is a 20th century invention, so we don't have a lot of records of early Presidents throwing these big shindigs because that's not what Americans did back then. But because the White House is a family home....we've had families celebrating the holidays there, going all the way back to 1800."

Tour Guide Tell All is getting into the holiday spirit by sharing the history of Christmas at the White House! Learn about how different holiday traditions began and what to expect if you ever visit the people’s house during the holidays!

  • The Outrageous and Tragic Life of Evalyn Walsh McLean
“(Evalyn Walsh McLean) is so famous that she took this big trip to Russia, and Cole Porter wrote about her. And this is when I turn my chair around backwards and I lean over to show teenagers how hip I am. 'Cole Porter was like a rapper in that he would drop references to the hottest chicks, the most important people, and all the tabloid drama!' And so the fact that she gets referenced in this Cole Porter song is definitely a testament to the fact that she was like a Kardashian, that level of notoriety and fame. And the line is: 'When Mrs. Ned McLean (God bless her) / can get Russian Reds to "yes" her / then I suppose / Anything goes....'"

Tour Guide Tell All continues it's look into the outrageous lives of some of Washington DC's wildest women, and in this episode we focus on Evalyn Walsh McLean. Once one of the most famous and envied women in the world, she suffered a great many tragedies which may or may not have been caused by one of the most famous pieces of jewelry she came to own, the notoriously "cursed" Hope Diamond.

  • The Petticoat Affair
“The Petticoat Affair is an amazing name. To me, it reads like a bodice-ripper title - this would be some sultry book you would take to the beach or it sounds like an old period movie.  I love this story because  it combines several things that you and I love which is women's history, there are some really interesting women who play in this story; presidential history, we're going to mention a lot of names that have come up in previous episodes; and it's sort of this great little scandal."

Tour Guide Tell All digs into the life and marriages of one beautiful DC woman, which became not just local gossip but a literal issue of national importance.  Learn how Andrew Jackson upended his Cabinet, the double standards for women in the 19th Century, and what Martin Van Buren has to do with any of this.

That was the summit of his intellectual ability.”
