  • Gilded Age Scandal: The Shocking, Tragic Story of Evelyn Nesbit

This week we have a scandal of a different kind, a darker kind. We are tackling the story of Evelyn Nesbit and the architect Stanford White. A story about desire and greed at the height of Gilded Age New York.

Join Becca and Rebecca for a story that isn’t a good guy versus bad guy, but a story with two and a half bad folks, and a tragically abused victim.

Becca and Rebecca discuss the Pearl Incident - a dramatic attempted escape of enslaved persons in Washington DC - that most people have never heard of.

I really feel like this should be a better known event ... The Pearl Incident was the largest non violent attempted escape of enslaved people in our nation's history.

  • Memorial Day Special: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Apologies to all our incredible listeners! Tours are up and running and we had some technical issues to work out, so we are a bit behind on releasing episodes. However, we wanted to drop this particular episode on this special day as our nation comes together to honor and remember the incredible sacrifices made by our Armed Forces throughout history. We could think of no better way to mark the occasion than to teach you everything you've ever wanted to know about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, one of our country's most important and meaningful places.

We will be moving to a lighter "summer schedule" as with tours picking up (hopefully) we will have less time to work on this. But we will still be bringing you two episodes a month, and then at least one bonus episode a month for our Patrons, along with some other bonus material.

Thank you for your patience and support!

This year, 2021 is the 100th birthday of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery and we wanted to talk about this anniversary, the Tomb itself, and its history. It is also Memorial Day, and this is how we would like to help honor all our military personnel, TGTA style!

Join Rebecca and Becca as we chat about one of the most fascinating things in the DC area, and perhaps the most important: the history of the Tomb of the Unknowns and the incredible Sentinels who guard it every day.

  • Patron Request: Louis Brandeis
"There are just case after case after case where Brandeis is going to write dissents or write opinions that are going to be cited for years and years to come, that are going to be so influential...Things that we really do take for granted, when it comes to ideas like free speech and the right to privacy, that are just so so key to what I think we think of when we think of the United States today."

The Tour Guide Tell All team is excited to bring you their first episode focused on a Supreme Court Justice - Louis Brandeis.  Learn about how "the people's lawyer" became the first Jewish justice on our highest court and how his life and work has impacted the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.

  • The California Gold Rush

“Sometimes there are events in history that are overblown, and sometimes there are events in history that are “underblown”; this one is perfect. We make as big a deal out of it (The Gold Rush) as we should, because it is a big deal. It’s not one of those things that’s like, ‘oh, it was bigger in pop culture than it really was!’. Nooo….The California Gold Rush is really foundational in understanding so much about, not only California, but specifically San Francisco, and just the whole migration westward, there’s a lot happening.”

We are taking our show on the road, hitting the Ponderosa, heading West. Not really, but we are talking about a western topic today: The Gold Rush!

Join the Rebeccas as we discuss the California Gold Rush and the opening of the West.

  • World War I and the New National World War I Memorial

"(WWI) is a war that is under-studied in the United States. Somebody said this to me once, that we feel about World War II in the United States, the way that Europeans feel about World War I....World War I is the big trial, and World War II is kind of this thing that happened afterward. And to wit, we have a friend, Matilda...and she moved to a teeny tiny town in the middle of nowhere France for a little while and there's about 100 people that live there, and on Armistice Day...they all get together,  and day drink, because France; and they read out the names of all the of the people from their village that died in the war."

We are dedicating a new memorial in DC, the National World War One Memorial, this week! We at Tour Guide Tell All are never ones to let a good opportunity go to waste, so the Rebeccas are here to chat about the memorial, and give an overview of American participation in the war.

Join us as we discuss the basics of World War I, debunk some myths, and prepare to usher a new memorial to the Nation's capital.
