Toy Power Podcast

Today on the Toy Power Podcast, it’s our Easter special with a great mix of topics. But first the news and NECA surprises us all with another great reveal. Speaking of reveals, can you find Wally/Waldo? There’s some potential Legends spoilers and is SDCC coming back? SpaceJam2, TweeterHead and James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. Phew! As it is Easter, what better than a run down of some of the most famous rabbits in pop-culture. There’s way more than you might think! Is Frank one of them? Then it’s time to dust off the soapbox with a robust discussion about the trails of ordering from the Little Guy – what’s a collector to do? And be sure to check out DVG where Ben chats about Judge Dread!

Today on the Toy Power Podcast, it’s all about games and testing our toy knowledge. But we need a ringmaster to pull it all together so Scotty M returns to the studio! Warming us up with a round of What Would You Rather, Scotty then quizzes the team – but with a twist – our wonderful Patreons have supplied the questions! It’s show-host against show-host in a battle for bragging rights and Toy Power supremacy! For Science! I think it’s fair to say the Patreons found gaps in our knowledge but there are some fascinating duels – how many Batman villains can you name? And more to the point, which A-lister did we forget to mention? And there’s a bonus, heart-wrenching question that makes Darren wish for the sweet release of death… Also, Wogsters. Then it’s Latest Scores time as we find out how much it takes to earn a free PopCulture pin – the answer varies. Ben adjusts his monocle with a bevy of goodies before Frank talks to his biggest purchase yet. And after a record-breaking hunt, has the Fridge been found? Be sure to listen right to VERY end! ;)

This week on The Toy Power Podcast, we have Scot Join us once again!  He brings a missing person report..... In the form of the Joe football player; The Fridge!  Can you believe he is STILL missing?!?  But furthermore, we are actually recording in Trent's Toyroom once again!!  We have lots of News topics to get through including re-releases of The Real Ghostbusters line with Ecto-1, Fearsome Flush & Bug Eye.  Then onto The Loyal Subjects, where they seem to have some great properties, however, there is some controversy that needs to be taken into account before buying them.  Just when you thought you had all the Gremlins toys you can want, we see Neca reveal Gizmo in his Pink Sports Car!  Then as we change gears its onto Marvel Legends - The Villains Wave - is this an all-in decision for Frank?!  Back to Neca as we praise RJ McReady - aka Kurt Russel from The Thing, when he gets the Ultimate treatment in toy form.  As indestructible as that Monster was, it seems to be not competition for the Invincible Anime series which is hitting streaming services very soon!  Based on the fantastic comicbook series, and we highlight some of the amazing voice actors on this project too.  New TMNT Video Game trailer - Shredder's Revenge, sounds like a must grab by all!!  Star Wars Black - Publishing Series - a neat deep dive into the already expansive Universe, with new book style packaging.  Zack Snyder's Justice League - we chat about the new toys that then naturally spins into a quick non-spoiler review of the new released film.  Back to the Future ReAction lines with exciting reveals of the same characters we already have....  Our 2nd topic is driven by Scot - it was supposed to be a Retrospective on a Giant Lizard property; however, Scot has a surprise for Darren instead, and we look at the Origins of a more modern toyline instead!!  Before we round out the episode a quick plug for our mate Gilly whom has a new series coming very soon - Plastic Chats!  Another fun episode!  Stop reading & start listening!

Today on the Toy Power Podcast we are unfortunately down a TPP member; however, we have a very talented guest with us instead!  We are joined with Vinnie Fiorello!! Yep, you might know him as the Drummer from the Punk Band 'Less Than Jake!'  But did you also know he is head of: Paper + Plastick!?  They produce Designer Toys; and Vinyl Records.  Yeah, that's right, we chat with Vinnie at length about his journey from musician to business-man as well as owning a Tattoo shop too!  Is there anything Vinne can't do?  Well, it certainly seems like he could do anything he sets his mind to. Find out what he collects, and how he formed a relationship with Funko!  Is the Ultimate Combo of Toys, Comics & Music possible?  Yes, it is!  It comes out in the format of: The Inevitables!  Be sure to check that out as well, all the while ensuring you are staying close to people named Brian.....  Then the last part of the episode, we chat all things Loot Crate.  With speculations of what the future may hold as well as some wish list items, we hope come to fruition!

Today on the Toy Power Podcast, we’ve got new toys and TV to talk about! But sadly we are one-person short tonight – however Frank doesn’t sound too unhappy about that… There’s new product reveals from Mattel, NECA and Playmates (so, 2/3 of it is good) With new Masters coming soon, is the great cross-over of GeekDudes and Darren going to end up equalling a streak? The figures look great but there’s a problem… Mythic Legions are at it again with their Masters tributes and tongue twisting names. And the new TMNT LootCrate has been revealed – who’s in? (The answer might surprise you) Then Frank gets his chance to gush about the figures he’s been dreaming of for years – only he’s starting with Wave 2 of Super7s TMNT Ultimates. Which one was the surprise packet? Then it’s a movi…err TV review as we cover the finale of WandaVision. Big Spoilers exist in this pocket of the multiverse so be warned. Bonus question: Which two fictional characters are Ben’s kids named after?

Today on the Toy Power Podcast, we’re two months into 2021 so it’s time to take stock and talk about where our collections are at, where they’re going and what does it all mean. Ben’s story starts out sad, but there is a silver, and even gold lining to it. Did we just coin the phrase BS-Stop? Trent sets himself lofty goals of actually entering his toy room – did you know there was carpet in that room? Frank’s collecting takes a decidedly modern turn but is less actually more? Darren says he’s fine tuning before listing 10 toylines he’s interested in! Did you know that a ThunderCat is also a boat? Then it’s Show and Tell time and we have it all: from great value vehicles, to some of biggest, smallest and “first” toys ever made from some iconic lines. Prepare your ears for another rendition of Trent’s famous Wookie battle cry… Then we shoutout a couple of projects including our good friend Rob and Jay at Action Figure Adventure and the new book of The Toys That Time Forgot. And our favourite GI Joe figure makes a special appearance right at the end….

This week on the Toy Power Podcast we bring you all the latest news plus a review of the Rad Plastic Book!!
But right at the top our list is information about our local Adelaide Comic & Toy Fair.  We have a date!  So please clear your schedule on the 7th of April for another awesome event!  Next up, we have a teaser pic of Hot Toys Bobba Fett as he appeared in the Mandalorian - Dad Bod Bobba?  Staying on that larger-than-life theme - how damn cool are these Muppets from Diamond Select - a beautiful offering of famous characters in their "best of line".  Then flipping the coin between Statue & Action Figure we have a new Mortal Kombat - Spawn Dark Ages, but we are struggling to work out what to call it.....  Onto news from Neca, we are all quite blown away with the Cartoon TMNT Disguise 4pk.  This set really is an ultimate pack; the list of accessories is simply amazing!!   Who doesn't like a good Crossover?  Well it appears that the TMNT / Power Rangers Crossover will be jumping off the comic pages & into plastic form!!  You may want to turn your volume knob down a bit; as Darren gets very excited about the MOTU Revelations listings - but it has the rest of us confused & we simply need to see some pictures of these teased wave listings!  Trailer news is next, & man does the Snyder Cut of Justice League look interesting!!  We talk about some things like 'dream sequences' & 'aspect ratios' that is new news to some of us!  Finally, the Mortal Kombat Trailer has also dropped and it seems like it has exceeded our expectations and calmed our concerns about the film itself.  Then to round out this episode, we take a look at the Rad Plastic book by Chris Fawcett.  This beautiful Art Book dives into the early production pieces and designs from the Original Playmates TMNT Toyline as well as the Next Mutation toyline.  Another fun episode to get your ears around!!  ~ Enjoy!

This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we kick it off with a vintage toy retrospective; because we haven't had one of those for so long!?!  This retrospective topic is all about an 80's franchise - an original movie trilogy line - of which the 3rd film was ghosted when it came to the toys!  You guessed it; it's all about the Indiana Jones franchise!  "You call this archaeology?"  Trent puts on his Fedora & cracks the Whip as he speaks in detail about Indy's run with Kenner & then LJN; as well as the more modern run with Hasbro for Crystal Skull.  Yes, we actually go there too!  Was this the defining point of toy companies realising they must work closely with the movie producers?  Where the best toys made & produced or where they may be based on the boring bits?  What parts sharing for Harrison Ford were used between Indy & Star Wars??  Just how damn difficult was it to clear the peg warmers from this line - and did this circumstance actually have a lasting impact on the property for years to come?  Plus listen out for a shout out to a super collector, as well as the cliff-hanger we are dying to resolve on the Plastic Crack Documentary.  For the second segment of the show, we review Wonder Woman 84'.  With its similarities to Batman Returns, questionable CGI aspects, extreme run time & its heart felt morals.  We analyse the wish sequences and the Golden Armour among many other aspects of the film - with a nice DVG rating to solidify our thoughts.  But all in all it's fairly safe to say we all had fun watching it.  "Nothing good is born from lies.  And Greatness is not what you think."  We actually manage to splice in a 3rd segment; a quick around the room show and tell which sees figures from all corners of the market!  Then just as the show is wrapping up; we have a little bit of collecting karma thrown into the mix, that will surely leave you smiling.
