Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Breaking from the norm is crucial to keeping the community on their toes, and when we decide to switch it up for a change, we go all the way with it. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jason was unable to make the show for Episode 104, which meant we had to pull up the unofficial third member of the podcasting team to the coveted co-hosting chair … Matt Sonnenberg! Who expected that switch, huh?

Because of the very successful Second Annual Toys For Games Award Show held last week, it has actually been two weeks since we dumped a truckload of toys-to-life news on the listening audience. Episode 104 didn't hold anything back, as news from all the major franchises - yes, EVEN Disney Infinity - needed to be talked about and broken down on this show! We talked about Avalanche Studios, Hermione being shown off in LEGO Dimensions for the first time, Skylanders anchoring the Nintendo Switch launch, and all the new and exciting amiibo news to break over the last couple of weeks.

From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always!

All this, and more, only in Episode 104!

The best use of lemons is to make lemonade, and that's exactly what we do with a slow news week here at Toys For Games. Acting as a pre-show to the Second Annual Toys For Games Awards next week, and in the middle of what is typically a slower time for news, the highlight of Episode 102 easily has to be the passion and electricity for what turns out to be a true love story.

Starting off in the news, we discuss the continued confusing nature that is the Disney lawyers, Skylanders day at GameStop this coming weekend, a bizarre sale of LEGO Dimensions, the long wait for the Switch announcement on Thursday, and the awesome looking Lightseekers beta figures. But most importantly, we wax poetic about the best looking figure in the history of Skylanders - Pain-Yatta! Yes, Pain-Yatta is BAE, no questions asked.

We also break down every single category and all the nominees for the Second Annual Toys For Games Awards, to be held on January 19th. There were a few categories and nominees that needed a bit more explanation than the voting page explains, so we took the time, as the last show before the Awards, to lay it all out for you, the community.

From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always!

All this, and more, only in Episode 102!

We're back and better than before! Okay, maybe that might be debatable, but after a couple week hiatus because of family, the holidays, and travel, the world's number one toys-to-life podcast has returned in its purest form! The break was much needed, but it came with a price, as the rust from not recording weekly definitely shows. Regardless of the side of the hill we flew into multiple times, we kick off 2017 with a bang, as we discuss plenty of toys, some of which have gone rogue.

After catching up with each other, since we haven't spoken in what feels like forever, we eventually get down to the news, which started off with the biggest surprise of the new year thus far. That's right, we got some Disney Infinity news to talk about, and it was a treat for sure. We also check in with the familiar franchises of LEGO Dimensions and Skylanders, as well as discussing Nintendo's upcoming plans. Also, less we not forget the newcomers to the news cycle, as we discuss Beasts of Balance, Toyji, Lightseekers, and present a new product to keep an eye out for in 2017, PlayTable.

From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We skip the Inquire This! segment this week, sadly. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always!

All this, and more, only in Episode 101!

Well, we've done it. We've reached the final episode in the double-digits, as we make the home stretch towards the big Episode 100! As per the norm for this time of the year, exciting news items are hard to come by, but that's never stopped us before. Aside from talking about amiibo boxes, and BOXBOY amiibo, we also cover the hard-hitting topics, like McDonald's Holiday Pies, cross-country traveling, and the best cookies in the world. Look, we may have 99 problems, but a box ain't one.

Getting to the news round-up, we discuss the full release of Wave 3 for Skylanders, and some more evidence pointing towards the end of the game as we know it. We also talk about the relaunch of Marceline the Vampire Queen for LEGO Dimensions. We break down the functionality of the Legend of Zelda amiibo in Breath of the Wild, as well as the newly announced BOXBOY amiibo. Oh, and there might be a little soapbox moment regarding the box art for upcoming amiibo. Also, we give our continued congratulations to Beasts of Balance for so many wonderful reviews coming through about the game since launch.

From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We skip the Inquire This! segment this week, sadly. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always!

With a vacation and the Thanksgiving holiday, we ended up taking a little break from recording, meaning Episode 98 was almost two weeks in the making. And trust us when we say, we missed you all dearly, but the break was much needed. Besides, in the gap between episodes, tons of stuff happened in the toys-to-life genre, including a huge rumor that could spell the end of a beloved franchise, but also might mean that a certain company brings back the dragons.

We start the show by catching up on what we've missed the last couple of weeks, including our Thanksgiving holidays and a trip to Southern California to visit friend of the show Brett, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. A lot has happened in our lives since the last episode, and while most of it has nothing to do with the toys-to-life topics, it was important for us to get our groove back, as they say.

Getting to the news round-up, we start off by talking about the elephant in the room, Skylanders. With a separated Wave 3 slowly making its way to retailers, and a new chase variant being discovered, the biggest news came in the form of a credible rumor detailing the alleged cancellation of the Skylanders franchise. While it is still a rumor, and should be taken with a grain of salt, we do our best to breakdown what we know, don't know, and expect from the allegations.

After that, we break down the upcoming release of the four Legend of Zelda amiibo this coming Friday. We also discuss the success rate of fans getting Green Arrow figures for LEGO Dimensions, as well the unpredictability of Arthur Parsons. Finally, we gush non-stop about Beasts of Balance, which we finally have in our hands, because it's so beautiful, and amazing, and fun, and thrilling, and … did I say beautiful? Yeah, Beasts of Balance is everything we hoped for, and then some.

From there, we read the #CommunityQuestion and awarded a listener (or two!) a cool prize for having the Response of the Week. We skip the Inquire This! segment this week, sadly. And finally, we wrapped up the show with some fantastic emails, as always!

All this, and more, only in Episode 98!
