Personal trainers often complain to me that their clients are 'training too much' and therefore not getting results. But is this really the case?
In my experience, women typically don't over train. Sure some may do double day training, or exercise at high volumes and intensities, but so too do athletes.
The difference?
Athletes are often well RESTED. They are diligent with their repair and recovery. So it's less about the amount of exercise that general population women do, and more about the LACK of recovery.
Tune into today's podcast where I explain this fully.

Building A Memorable Brand
Hey there, welcome back to the show. I hope that you have been doing OK through these crazy COVID times. Isn't it excellent news to hear that our restrictions are easing and it looks like you'll be able to do outdoor sessions very shortly! Soon to be followed by restricted indoor training – just the news we the Fitness Industry have been waiting for! Well for us Australians and Kiwis anyways.
It really is hopeful news, but I want to enforce that just because restrictions are being lifted, and it feels like we are on a a fast track back to normalcy, to NOT get complacent.
Don't' drop the ball.
Now is the time to stay on top of your marketing, to keep delivering your virtual sessions with world class execution, to keep supporting your community as they transition back and to get really clear on what your future business model looks like.
We aren't out of the danger zone yet, and if the experts from the Filex International panel are right (and let's be honest they'e got a ton of wisdom and insight into world wide Fitness trends) we need to plan for at least another 12 months before seeing the full effect this pandemic has had on our businesses.
Ok, I'll leave that there so I can introduce todays guest. Just quickly before I do though, have you joined my private FB group? If not, you gotta come play - it is growing by the day, and I would love for you to join it. It's called the Fitness and Business Coaching Tribe – Ill give links in the show notes, but it is the place to be for all Fit Pro's who want valuable business tips and ideas as well as female-client specific coaching
Now, to the star of todays show. My guest Nikki Naab Levvy is someone whom I admire greatly in this industry. She is raw, vulnerable, honest and a voice of reason. When she talks, I listen.
Nikki is a fishnet wearing Pilates instructor, massage therapist and fitness educator with over 10 years in the game. She is also an exceptional writer and great communicator.
In this conversation we talk about her recent Fitness funk and why she didn't feel good enough to be in the industry anymore (and also why she got over that), how to launch a membership in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and why you need to embrace your quirkiness in order to build a recognisable fitness brand.
Highlights:
[00:00:2:18] How the pandemic bought up a lot of emotional issues
[00:00:6:37] Understanding the importance of Marketing
[00:00:10] Don't fall into the trap of following any one 'guru'
[00:18:37] Why 'trying' to be the 'expert is exhausting and what you need to do to make it easy
[00:20:00] Why all trainers need to know fitness business marketing
[00:24:22] The power of niching your fitness business
[00:33:34] Launching a membership (and how intense it actually is!)

In this short conversation I discuss the idea of personal responsibility and how, right now in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis, personal trainers need to focus on asking better questions.
Better questions of themselves and better questions of other people.
This FLQuickie is an extension of a social media post I did a few days back, and I wanted to take the time to explain it a little deeper.

Jen Dugard and myself hosted this free training on 'How To Protect Your Fitness Business In the Coming Months' for all fitness professionals concerned about how Coronavirus is going to impact their business.
This was recorded Friday 20 March 2020 and as of Sunday 22 March the Australian government declared all non-essential gathering sites to be closed. Unfortunately this includes gyms.
All of the information in this training is still relevant, in fact it's even more relevant given personal trainers are now forced to pivot quick!
We cover off on 6 major focal points:

Today, I bring to you my second 'Shero' guest, Rachelle Ballard-Clayton from Mee Active Training.
Rachelle specialises in helping women get off the sidelines of life and into movement that matters.
Based in Coomera, QLD, Rachelle runs a highly successful hybrid fitness business - a business that is made up of face to face training (with private clients), community group programs and an online membership.
This woman has gone from strength to strength in our industry and is truly making a big impact. This is in contrast to when I first meet her a couple of years back.
When we first met, Rachelle was struggling to figure out how and what her place in the fitness industry was. She explains that she 'didn't know where she belonged as she didn't look like the standard fitness professional'. She was riddled with doubt, confusion and exhaustion.
Fast forward to 2020, and things in her business and personal life are STARKLY different.
In today's episode we talk about her struggles and doubts and what she finally did to bring her to where she is today. Rachelle shares openly with us, and gives us great insight into her business.
There's lots to take on in this episode!
Highlights:
[20:32] The biggest mistakes trainers make when going into the online space
[22:08] The importance of knowing your market (avatar) inside out
[24:14] Hot tip – where to start with an avator if youaren't sure
[32:39] The truth about building up a filled group class (and why you have to be a resilient MthrFkr)
[37:52] How to keep showing up and building a community of people even when you get crickets
[38:00] The Key piece of advice you HAVE to take to heart
[41:38] Rachelle's 3 pieces of advice for Personal Trainers
[44:50] What pisses off Rachelle off the most about the fitness industry

If something happened to you, and you had to be absent from your business would it be ok? What would happen? Would you lose clients, income and freak out, or would it tick over relatively unscathed?
I asked my community these questions not long ago, as I announced my (unplanned) pregnancy (oops) and found myself in a position where I had to re-think ALL of my 2020 plans.
I had 2020 all mapped out and was looking forward to having a huge year in business, but well, the universe has other plans for me, and so I found myself having to pivot hard!
Universe to me:
Me to Universe:
Fortunately, I had intentionally set my business up in a way that allowed for flexibility and freedom. I don't want to be in a position where my business owns me; a slave to it and the people I help.
That's why I have always had multiple sources of income (or different revenue streams). If one stream dries up or doesn't do well I have others to get me through.
When I was a Personal Trainer I definitely did NOT have this. In fact, I didn't even know what this meant! If I was sick, or couldn't train my clients my income was impacted. This made it difficult to go on holidays, take time off in general to build out my business and I certainly didn't have a buffer if a big life event got in the way (such as this).
From the responses in my community it's clear that many trainers are like old me. That's why in this episode I'm sharing with you 8 big ideas to help you create more income streams for your business.
Highlights:
[00:06:14] The difference between thinking like a trainer and thinking like an fitpreneur
[00:07:23] The 3 key big themes to apply to your business
[00:09:23] The number 1 thing you must do to run a successful business this decade
[00:19:00] Income stream idea #1 (check out the 'How To Transition Your Fitness Business from 1:1 to a Semi Private model here)
[00:21:14] Income stream idea #2
[00:24:37] Income stream idea#3

Today I'm pumped to bring you my first 'Shero' guest. A shero guest is a woman in the fitness industry who's a brilliant business owner and trainer, someone who's doing amazing things in the industry and having a great impact on her community, but who may not necessarily have a monster following online.
I really want to bring attention to these women for a few of reasons – the first, these sheroes haven't typically got big platforms and therefore they may not have the influence that they deserve, secondly, I think it's important to showcase these women and their stories as they are realistic, relatable role models for all you women in fitness out there.
Thirdly, you can actually reach out and create a relationship with them because they too, are all about collaboration, connection and building a better fitness industry together.
I'm really fortunate that I have access to many amazing women in my network and I want to share them with you too, so that you can learn from them also.
Soo without further adieu allow me to introduce you to Olivia Park.
Olivia is a women's health and performance coach who helps ambitious women get strong, more resilient and redefine what health is for them.
She believes women can find liberation from the 'shoulds' of the fitness industry through masterful movements and mindset.
Highlights:
[00:05:51] What really drives change in our clients
[00:07:58] Practical ways to help clients outside of gym sessions
[00:10:30] Dealing with exhaustion and long hours at the gym
[00:13:07] What you MUST have before becoming an online coach
[00:20:30] Olivia's truth
[00:34:00] Key systems for your fitness business
[00:40:38] Insights into Olivia's newest online coaching program

How To Get Your Head In The Game + Master Your Mindset In Order To Have The Fitness Business You Desire
Download Episode Here
It is a well known fact, that you could have all the best strategies and protocols in the world, but they don't mean anything unless you implement them.
And given the fact that we have access to more information than at any other time in history it seems weird that so many people fail to take action on the very things they know they need to.
But despite it being weird, it is not uncommon.
People have an IMPLEMENTATION problem not an information problem - whaaaatt???? Yep - you read that right.
This is true for our clients, as well as for you in your business. So the big question is - how do you consistently implement?
The answer: you have to create a specific mindset - one where you self generate motivation, cultivate grit and resiliency, enhance your own productivity and practice discipline on a daily basis
And this is an overlooked part of running a successful personal training which is why I want to share my thoughts on this topic with you today.
We're talking mindset and if you've been following my work for awhile and you know that I am all about making sure that you have your head in the game; that you think in the "right way", and by right, I mean in a way that helps you step up and be the better version of yourself who's running the bad-ass business that you want.
Highlights:
[00:01:57] Success is 80 % mindset and 20% strategy
[00:05:13] Why you have to master your inner game to achieve your big business goals
[00:07:15] Your personal brand IS your business brand
[00:09:14] Why 'fitness' motivational memes are boring and vanilla
[00:12:37] How Mark Fisher created a million dollar brand owning his quirkiness
[00:18:07) Why your message has to be authentic to you
[00:26:40] One of my favourite, most powerful journal questions for business
